Two industry news outlets have offered up names of contenders for the leading lady in The Flash, with one actress hailing from one of the director’s earlier projects, and the other two from a pair of films that couldn’t be any more different from each other. Of course, it’s worth noting right from the start that these reports are unconfirmed and unofficial at this point, and we could end up with someone else entirely as the film’s female lead.
According to Variety, the frontrunner for the role is actress Kiersey Clemons, who previously starred in The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa’s Dope, and will also appear in the upcoming remake of Flatliners. Most recently, she appeared in the comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and appears to have quite a few projects on the horizon these days.
Not too long after the report on Clemons surfaced, Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter indicated that two other actresses are in the mix for the role, too. Both Lucy Boynton of Sing Street and Rita Ora of Fifty Shades of Grey are reportedly contenders for the film’s female lead, according to the report.
As for the character the eventual lead actress — whoever she might be — will play, rumors indicate that the female lead will portray Iris West, the longtime love of DC Comics’ Barry Allen, the superhero’s civilian alter ego. Iris West is currently played by Candice Patton on The CW’s popular The Flash television series.
With Miller in the lead role, The Flash is currently scheduled to hit theaters March 16, 2018, but Miller — and possibly the film’s female lead — will appear in Batman V. Superman director Zack Snyder’s Justice League several months before the solo movie. That film arrives in theaters November 17, 2017.
