“We’re proud to announce that an idea that was in the works for a very long time is finally happening — our very own bundle for PS Vita!” says DrinkBox Studios’ Chris McQuinn.
The bundle, launching on July 13, includes Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack, which was a launch title for the system, as well as Guacamelee! and Severed. Guacamelee! launched back in 2013 to a very positive response from critics, who lauded the game’s bright colors, deep, satisfying combat system, and Metroid-inspired exploration. It was made available in its “Super Turbo Championship Edition” form for PlayStation Plus last year, and has also been available for free on Xbox One.
Severed, which is also set to launch on Wii U and 3DS later this year as a cross-buy title, features similarly colorful visuals but with an increased emphasis on touchscreen interaction. Players swipe the screen almost in the manner of a more sophisticated Fruit Ninja, damaging and switching between enemies at a breakneck pace.
The Vita is certainly an underutilized and underappreciated machine, but if you look closely, you’ll see that there are still great games releasing for the system. Just last month, Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir launched on the Vita in addition to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The less capable hardware didn’t slow it down in the slightest, with a perfect frame rate and crisp visuals perfectly replicating what you’d get from a full console experience.
