While the cast and crew began filming Spider-Man: Homecoming a little more than a week ago, director Jon Watts and cast members brought along a preliminary teaser trailer using whatever scrounged up footage already exists. The studio also released concept art today featuring Spidey himself fighting off super villain The Vulture in an all-out dog fight. The fans seemed to thoroughly enjoy the trailer, for which you can read a recap on Comicbook.com.
The movie, which follows 10th grade Peter Parker in what will probably be the first true superhero coming of age film, is set for a July 7, 2017 release, and is being produced by Marvel and Columbia Pictures. Sony Pictures is along for the ride as the distribution company.
Spider-Man: Homecoming works within the now near-mature Marvel cinematic universe, after new Spider-Man actor Tom Holland made his debut as the character in Captain America: Civil War earlier this year. The movie promises to be a closer depiction of the original comic book character compared to other previous takes of the franchise, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of the web-slinging superhero.
For one, the concept art looks to be ripped straight out of the comics, and fans watching the trailer at Comic-Con at Hall H were clearly happy that the footage reflected a similar take on the character.
While the film comes out next summer, a number of actors have been confirmed to be in the movie, including Donald Glover, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. As for The Vulture, Michael Keaton has been closely connected to the role, but there’s been no official confirmation from the studio.
