While there are other players in the live TV streaming space, right now Sling TV and PlayStation Vue are the two biggest, with each service constantly trying to one up the other. One of the PlayStation Vue’s biggest advantages has been content from major networks, but Sling is catching up, with on-demand content from NBC coming to the streamer.

Sling announced the news in a post on its blog Wednesday, pointing out that all of its customers can now watch on-demand episodes of The Voice, America’s Got Talent, or Running Wild with Bear Grylls. Until now, only customers living in 10 markets where local NBC affiliates were carried on the streaming service had access to those shows.

Shows will be available on demand the day after the show airs live, with back episodes of some shows available as well. In order to access NBC on-demand, you’ll need to be a subscriber to the $25 per month Sling Blue package. Customers of the $20 per month Sling Orange package will have to add Blue in order to watch NBC, though the company offers a $5 per month discount to those subscribing to both packages, bringing the total to $40 per month.

This is the second major network to offer on-demand content to Sling TV customers — Fox was added when the company introduced the Blue package, which was in beta at the time. PlayStation Vue also offers on-demand content from ABC to all of its customers, while ABC is currently only available to Sling TV customers in a few markets via the $5 per month Broadcast Extra package.

Earlier this month, Sling TV became the first live TV service to offer the NFL Network and NFL Redzone, with the former available to Sling Blue customers and the latter available in the Sports Extra package. Both channels are also coming to PlayStation Vue, likely in a similar fashion, but have yet to launch on the service.

NBC is available to Sling Blue customers starting Wednesday, so if you’re a subscriber and not yet seeing it, have patience, as it should appear very soon.

YouTube TV is the most popular live-streaming service in the U.S., with more than 8 million subscribers. Sling TV has about one-quarter of that. But it's still worth looking at the latter against the former because it does things a little differently.

Sling Orange vs. Sling Blue: Which Sling TV package is best?
Sling TV logo.

Sling TV does things differently. It’s not like the other live streaming services (also referred to as linear services because everyone’s watching the same thing at the same time as served up by the networks) because it doesn’t just have a single plan. In fact, it’s not even that it has multiple tiers of plans.

No, Sling TV is still as close as you can get to a la carte TV—even though it is also definitely not that. You can’t pick and choose your channels on Sling TV, but you can pick and choose bundles of them.
