Mortal Kombat X was a strong entry into the venerable fighting game franchise, but some fans were disappointed to hear that its XL edition featuring all the DLC characters released so far wouldn’t be coming to PC. However, it seems that plans have changed since that announcement was made in January.
The series’ co-creator Ed Boon took to Twitter on Monday to hint at a possible PC release for Mortal Kombat XL, according to a report from IGN. Boon published a tweet that read, “Maybe we should Karry eXtra Long People who Care?” — with the capitalized letters plainly spelling out MK XL PC.
On July 29, Boon ran a Twitter poll asking fans what NetherRealm Studios should do next with regards to Mortal Kombat X. A PC port of the XL edition with GGPO netcode was the top pick, beating out a fourth ESL tournament series and general balance tweaks to fighters.
The PC version of Mortal Kombat X launched alongside its console iterations, but the port was widely criticized. Technical issues plagued the experience for many players, especially in relation to online competition — which is obviously a big problem for a fighting game.
The problems with the PC version of the game prompted publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to limit the release of the second round of DLC characters to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, this will be rectified if Mortal Kombat XL does indeed make its way to the platform.
XL includes every piece of DLC released for the game so far, including the Xenomorph, Tri-borg, Bo’ Rai Cho, and Leatherface, the characters which are currently unreleased on PC. The package also improved upon the base game’s netcode when it was released on consoles in March 2016.
