Getting a job at Google may be hard, but getting your design featured on the company’s new Fall Android Wear watch? Alright fine — that’ll be hard, too. But here’s your chance.
This year, the tech giant is hoping to call upon the creative power of the masses to crowdsource a unique watch face design, which will be featured on Google’s wearable. Thanks to a new partnership between Paper magazine and Android Wear, you’ll be able to partake in a social media competition that involves a “global search for unique watch face designs.”
Google has often turned to external parties to come up with the aesthetics behind faces. Collaborations with Zoe Jordan, Rebecca Minkoff, and Ted Baker have yielded successful results, but this time, you don’t have to be a major fashion house to catch Google’s eye. Really, you just have to have a good idea — but be warned, it’ll need to be an extremely good idea.
“Whether you’re a design student or just a fashion lover, this is your chance to free your inner designer,” Paper said in its announcement. “No need to be a computer whiz: Snap a picture, sketch on a napkin, play with fabric, paint on canvas… If it inspires you, we want to see it!”
Ideas will be judged by an impressive panel that includes designer Cynthia Rowley, style icon Jenné Lombardo, Beyoncé’s stylist Ty Hunter, Android Wear designer Morten Just, and Paper’s Editorial Director Mickey Boardman. So if your design is the one selected, rest assured that it’ll be blessed by some of the most influential folks in the business.
