The retitled Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World will include all levels featured in the game’s initial Wii U release, and Nintendo teases that expanded amiibo support is on the horizon.
Released in 2015, Yoshi’s Woolly World is a side-scrolling platformer featuring a handcrafted aesthetic, similar to the approach adopted for the 2010 Wii title Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Gameplay otherwise sticks closely to conventions established in Yoshi’s Island and its follow-ups, with tossable yarn balls replacing Yoshi’s usual egg arsenal.
New content slated for Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World will focus on Yoshi’s canine pal Poochy. Poochy stars in a series of exclusive autoscrolling stages in which players can rack up bonus beads, and Miniature Poochy Pups will also follow Yoshi at certain points during his adventure, aiding in the discovery of hidden areas and other secrets.
The 3DS version of Yoshi’s Woolly World will also include a collection of 30 stop-motion shorts created by animation studio Dwarf. Showcasing miniature Yoshi’s Woolly World characters in oversized real-world settings, each episode will focus on “the daily lives of Yoshi and Poochy,” according to Nintendo.
An amiibo figurine featuring Poochy is also set to premiere alongside Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World at retail, and Nintendo will reveal more details regarding the game’s amiibo functionality at a later date. The Wii U edition of Yoshi’s Woolly World allows players to scan compatible amiibo figures to unlock new outfits, while scanning the Yarn Yoshi amiibo enables a “Double Yoshi” mode that adds an in-game partner during single-player mode.
Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World launches at retail and digitally via the Nintendo 3DS eShop on February 3, 2017.
