Netflix to release Justin Timberlake concert film in October: Watch the trailer now

Justin Timberlake and The Tennessee Kids | Official Teaser [HD] | Netflix
Netflix acquired exclusive global rights to Justin Timberlake + The Tennessee Kids, and plans to release the performance concert film on October 12, according to Deadline Hollywood. Jonathan Demme, known for Neil Young: Heart of Gold and Silence of the Lambs, directs the documentary, according to Dateline.

The documentary focuses on Timberlake and his 25-man band on their final appearance on Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience World Tour. The tour lasted two years and consisted of 134 shows. Justin Timberlake posted the documentary’s teaser on his Twitter account and said, “Who’s ready to #TimberlakeAndChill? Me & @TheTNKids. On @Netflix. Starting October 12th #Netflix.”

The 20/20 Experience World Tour was the fifth concert tour for Timberlake, and promoted his third and fourth albums, The 20/20 Experience and The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2. The tour began in November of 2013 and finished on January 2, 2015 in Las Vegas. Events surrounding the Las Vegas two-day concert at the MGM Grand Garden Arena make up the material for the upcoming documentary.

Netflix’s plan to premiere the concert film is another step in the direction of offering more original content and exclusive events. Netflix expands its offerings by acquiring the rights to the concert documentary, and adds to original sitcoms, animated series, dramatic series, films, and documentaries. The firm explains that its ultimate goal is to have “internet TV replace linear TV,” and compares the change to the manner in which TV content overcame radio programming in the ’50s and ’60s.

“Our first original series debuted in 2013,” Netflix stated in a news release. “We became global in 2016, nearly twenty years after starting Netflix. Over the following decades, internet TV will replace linear, and we hope to keep leading by offering an amazing entertainment experience.”

Netflix obviously hopes that Timberlake’s concert documentary will continue to drive viewers to turn to Netflix for original material and worldwide premieres like this one.

A man aims his camera in Scoop.

Thrillers come in all shapes and sizes. There's the psychological or serial killer thriller, which was popularized in the '90s by The Silence of the Lambs and Se7en. There's the erotic thriller, which had its heyday in the late '80s and early '90s with such hits as Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct. And then there's the action thriller, which is probably the most popular offshoot of the genre right now, with the Taken series and Salt as prime examples.

Recently, there's been a revival of a subgenre that's been dormant since the 1970s: the journalism thriller. From Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal to the Oscar-winning Spotlight to 2022's She Said, this type of thriller usually centers around journalists pursuing a controversial and sometimes dangerous story. One of the best journalism thrillers has just been released by Netflix: Scoop. In chronicling how the BBC managed to snag the scoop of the decade by interviewing Prince Andrew about his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the movie manages to be suspenseful, informative, and one of 2024's most purely entertaining films.

Christian Bale smirks and points to a stero.

Anthony Minghella's The Talented Mr. Ripley is a masterful adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's iconic novel from 1955. The film stars Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, the charming criminal who cons his way into a life of wealth, luxury, and high social status. His means of acquiring these items, however, are a result of violent and murderous actions. While Damon is perfect as Tom, Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) provides a compelling interpretation of the notorious character in the new TV series, Ripley.

The eight-episode Netflix show has received positive reviews, with Digital Trends' A.A. Dowd calling Ripley a "terrifically tense thriller." After consuming Ripley, check out these three movies and TV shows with similar vibes to Ripley. Our selections include a Stephen King adaptation, a disturbing docuseries, and a brilliant satire.
