Keep that 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare' disc: you need it for 'Modern Warfare Remastered'

If you were planning on purchasing Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare just to receive a code for Modern Warfare Remastered, you’re still going to have to hold onto the disc — without Infinite Warfare running, you won’t be able to play it.

The fine print on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered official website makes this requirement crystal clear, stating that the “game disc must be inserted” in order for the digital Modern Warfare Remastered to run. The disclaimer also says that an internet connection is required to run the game, though it doesn’t specify whether this is for the multiplayer component alone or also the campaign.

The announcement adds further weight to Activision’s assertion that Modern Warfare Remastered will only be available as a pack-in with special editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the cheapest of which costs $80. A Change.org petition to change the publisher’s mind currently has more than 8,700 supporters.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered includes the campaign mode from the original Call of Duty 4 — widely regarded as one of the greatest first-person shooters of all time — as well as ten of the game’s multiplayer maps. More maps are expected to be released before the end of the year, and if you’ve pre-ordered a special edition of Infinite Warfare on PlayStation 4, you’ll be able to play the entire campaign this Wednesday.

The game is developed by longtime Call of Duty collaborator Raven Software and is executive produced by original developer Infinity Ward. Modern Warfare Remastered will feature dedicated multiplayer servers, and is also one of the games announced to have support for the PlayStation 4 Pro console.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered are both out for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 4.

After a few years in development, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is finally launching worldwide under the Microsoft banner. Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. The original Call of Duty set a new standard for first-person shooters, the series' online multiplayer work has been a must-play for gamers for nearly two decades, and Warzone has been one of the top battle royale experiences of late.

The series has covered a lot of warfare, from World War II to futuristic fictional wars in 2187, but never in any set order. Players have been bounced around from era to era with each annual COD release and even revisited the same conflicts multiple times from different perspectives through direct sequels and remakes.
