Leica teams with handcrafted bag brand Ona for exclusive line of camera bags

High-end camera, meet high-end bag. Today, Ona Designs International announced a partnership with Leica to create a series of 19 handcrafted camera bags.

The bags are inspired by Leica’s design with a signature red interior. On the outside, the bags offer a clean traditional look with several leather options. Ona says the bag’s craftsmanship reflects both companies’ commitment to excellent design and craftsmanship — the collection includes bags made with full-grain leather as well as premium waxed canvas, along with smaller details like solid brass hardware.

The Leica Collection by Ona, debuting next month, will include both Ona’s messenger bag styles as well as a backpack. Ona, a company based in New York, has been designing handcrafted camera bags since 2010.

“ONA has developed a reputation among professional and recreational photographers alike for creating high-quality accessories that are both stylish and utilitarian,” said Stefan Daniel, Global Director Business Unit Photo, Leica Camera. “… today we are delighted to announce an entire collection of handcrafted bags and accessories for our customers.”

The new collection isn’t the first time the two companies have worked together as a dynamic duo — the companies first paired up two years ago with two Berlin messenger bags for the Leica M system, with another Bowery for Leica messenger debuting in 2015. The Leica Collection is, however, the only expansive collection the two brands have completed together.

“Having developed a strong relationship with Leica through the years, we are thrilled to be partnering on a broader scale with the development of this new collection,” said Garry Thaniel, ONA’s Chief Executive Officer. “Leica is a brand that has inspired generations of discerning photographers; we are honored to develop products that complement the Leica photographer’s style while providing top-notch protection for their gear.”

All 19 bags will be sold exclusively in Leica’s 200 worldwide stores and boutiques starting in November. The bags are expected to retail between $168 and $496.
