Showtime has offered up a nice reminder, though, that the revival series is indeed on the way in the form of a behind-the-scenes featurette that provides one of the first looks at the series and some additional insight from the cast and creative team behind it.
Written and produced by series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost, the Twin Peaks revival is set 25 years after the original series, more than two decades after FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) first began his investigation into the murder of local homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee).
The series brings back original cast members MacLachlan, Miguel Ferrer, Kimmy Robertson, Harry Goaz, Dana Ashbrook, and James Marshall, who all appear in the behind-the-scenes feature. The preview also includes some thoughts on the project from series newcomers Jim Belushi, Amy Shiels, Robert Knepper, and Chrysta Bell.
At this point, the number of episodes in the revival series is still unconfirmed, with Lynch insisting on directing the series as a single, continuous script, then editing it into individual episodes. Filming on the series was completed in April, and editing is still underway.
The list of all the officially confirmed returning cast members for the revival is a long one, with MacLachlan reprising his role as Dale Cooper, along with Ashbrook as Bobby Briggs, Lee as Laura Palmer, and Ferrer as Albert Rosenfeld. Sherilyn Fenn is also expected to return as Audrey Horne, as will Mädchen Amick as Shelly Johnson, Michael Horse as Deputy Hawk, Peggy Lipton as Norma Jennings, Everett McGill as Ed Hurley, Ray Wise as Leland Palmer, and Grace Zabriskie as Sarah Palmer.
There’s no specific premiere date for the series at this point, only a planned release date in the early half of 2017.
