Election Day is less than two weeks away. On November 8, the American citizenry will have the opportunity to choose its next leader, and one app wants to make sure that as many people as possible take advantage of that opportunity.
Public transportation app Moovit has partnered with politically minded nonprofit Rock the Vote to drive voter turnout — quite literally. Via this latest collaboration, Moovit users will be notified of their state’s voter registration deadline and have access to easy-to-navigate trip planning to their local polling places on Election Day.
In honor of the historic election that is just 13 days away, Moovit will ensure that its users will be able to “quickly find the best route to his or her polling place,” no matter if this route involves public transit, bikesharing services, or Uber. In the Directions tab of the Moovit app, in which users can normally find one-tap directions to their favorite locations, they’ll also be able to look into suggested routes to assigned polling stations. And within the Stations tab, users will find polling station location information, as well as real-time information for nearby arriving transportation options.
“Moovit is proud to promote civic engagement through our partnership with Rock the Vote,” said Moovit North American Country Manager David Klein. “By reminding citizens to register and enabling them to quickly arrive at polling stations, the Moovit app is empowering users to participate in this year’s presidential election.”
Rock the Vote Director of Civic Technology and Policy Jen Tolentino echoed these sentiments, noting, “Rock the Vote is thrilled to partner with Moovit to promote easy online voter registration and provide important election information to their millions of millennial users. One key public transit destination that young voters should not miss this year is the voting booth — and with polling place information now built into the Moovit app, we hope that they won’t.”
