Some iPhones experience reduced battery life following iOS 10.1.1 update

It looks like Apple is suffering through yet another botched iOS update. While iOS 10.1.1 promises to bring bug fixes and stability improvements, it seems it might bring another, much less welcome new feature — reduced battery life.

A report from PCMag highlights the iPhone battery drain. There’s also an active discussion on the Apple support site, with some users saying that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S is now unable to last a day without a charge. Some even say that the iPhone is dying with 30 to 50 percent battery life still remaining.

The iPhone has been suffering through a few battery issues of late — last week, Apple announced that it would be replacing a number of malfunctioning batteries in some iPhone 6S models free of charge, but the latest issues seem to pop up in more than just the iPhone 6S.

Some people have also said that they’ve found a solution — turning off the Raise the Wake feature on some iPhone models seems to help. Not everyone, however, has been able to get their phones to work normally again.

It’s largely expected that Apple will release another update that serves as a patch to this issue.  Apple rolled out iOS 10.1 on October 31, and it was replaced with iOS 10.1.1 on November 9, which was only available to those who hadn’t already updated. Currently, iOS 10.2 Beta 3 is also available to those who are part of Apple’s beta program.

This isn’t the first time Apple has released a buggy iOS update. For example when iOS 9 was first released, some users experienced the inability to use the “Slide to Upgrade” screen — in fact, once on the screen, the phone was totally unresponsive. On top of that, users were unable to connect to Wi-Fi, or found that Wi-Fi often disconnected.
