Peter Parker gets a new suit in first ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ footage

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING - Trailer Tease
Spider-Man’s debut in Marvel’s cinematic universe already took place in this year’s Captain America: Civil War, but his upcoming solo feature promises to make the webslinger’s role a bit more prominent — and he’ll apparently get a costume makeover, too.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have released the first, official footage from Spider-Man: Homecoming to tease the upcoming debut of the film’s first trailer, and the new footage not only features a familiar face from Marvel’s movie-verse, but a fresh new look for everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood wall-crawler.

The full trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming will debut during Thursday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, but the brief preview offered up by Sony and Marvel (who are partnering on the project) has star Tom Holland’s iteration of Peter Parker receiving a special gift from Iron Man himself, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). The footage unfolds via Peter’s perspective, and although Downey isn’t seen in the clip, his good friend and assistant “Happy” Hogan (as played by Jon Favreau) is shown reminding Peter that Tony left him something on a table that he might want to check out.

The contents of the package are revealed shortly thereafter when Spider-Man is seen perched at the top of a tower, only to leap backwards over a nearby helicopter that’s hovering nearby, extending his arms and showing off the suit’s under-arm webbing.

Longtime fans of Spider-Man will likely be ecstatic about the makeover in Spider-Man’s suit, as the under-arm webbing was a staple of Spidey’s original costume in Marvel’s comics. The webbing was removed in later incarnations of Peter’s superhero suit, but has occasionally made appearances in variations of the costume over the years.

Directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), Spider-Man: Homecoming also stars Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Michael Keaton as The Vulture, Zendaya as a character named Michelle, Logan Marshall-Green as an unidentified villain, and Kenneth Choi as the principal of Peter’s school. Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Michael Barbieri, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Angourie Rice, Jacob Batalon, Tyne Daly, and Bokeem Woodbine also play supporting roles in the film.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.

When is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse streaming?
Miles Morales falls through a multiverse portal in "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."

It took almost five years, but the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse finally arrived and was one of the top hits of the summer. And Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is everything you could hope for from a follow-up -- and more. It has a much bigger scale than the first film, with literally hundreds of Spider-Heroes, at least five distinct animated worlds, and a ton of heart that made this sequel a huge success.

The incredible visuals got people into theaters, but the characters are the reasons why moviegoers kept coming back to see it. Shameik Moore reprises his role as Miles Morales, a teenage Spider-Man who has a lot of questions about his future. Also returning from the first film is Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, New Girl's Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, and Causeway's Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Vélez as Miles' parents, Jefferson and Rio Morales, both of whom have much meatier roles in the sequel.

Why you should watch The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Netflix
Andrew Garfield in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."

This month, Netflix has welcomed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back to its lineup, and it has quickly become one of the most popular movies on Netflix. That makes this the perfect opportunity to tell you why you should watch The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Netflix.

Now, we would never argue that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man film or even a great one. It's got a lot of problems, including a truly grotesque Green Goblin design, a very unconvincing performance by Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, and a take on Electro (Jamie Foxx) that feels like it was lifted directly from Batman Forever. This film also tries so hard to set up an MCU-style Spider-Man universe that it wildly underperformed at the box office and led Sony Pictures to partner directly with Marvel Studios for the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man flicks.
