Fans of Amazon Fire TV and Alexa can now pre-order the first-ever television with the company’s interface built-in, thanks to a new smart TV from Element Electronics.

Element’s new Amazon Fire TV Edition will feature 4K Ultra HD resolution and an interface that relies heavily on Amazon’s voice-recognition tech. In addition to displaying normal cable or antenna-based programming, the TV will offer access to Amazon’s sprawling list of Fire TV applications, including favorites like HBO Now, Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, and, of course, Amazon Prime Video. And that’s just for starters. The TV will also be able to control smart devices, pause and rewind live broadcasts, and perform a variety of other tasks via voice command.

“This new line of smart TVs featuring Amazon’s Fire TV experience extend the voice-control revolution starting in the home. With the Voice Remote with Amazon Alexa, customers can not only change channels, launch apps, and search or switch inputs with simple voice commands, but they can also ask Alexa to read and display sports scores, dim the living room lights, see Yelp restaurant review, and even order a Domino’s pizza,” said Sung Choi, Element’s vice president of marketing, in a press release. “This TV represents the ultimate connected TV experience, coupled with an innovative voice service that will forever change the way we interact with home devices.”

The Amazon Fire TV Edition will square off against similarly integrated Roku smart TVs, which have been selling extremely well. Roku-integrated TVs will include more than 150 models by the end of 2017. We’re particularly interested to see how the two user interfaces compare in testing.

The new TV will be available in 43-, 50-, 55-, and 65-inch sizes. Perhaps one of the most impressive aspects is the price: offered from $450-$900, the new TVs are an extremely affordable proposition in the growing 4K Ultra HD marketplace.

As an extra incentive, anyone who pre-orders one of the new TVs on Amazon will also get an Amazon Basics HD antenna for their trouble. If these models prove popular, it is likely that more models from other manufacturers will follow.

If you don’t see CBS in 4K on YouTube TV, try this
Super Bowl in 4K on CBS on YouTube TV.

A quick heads up if you have the 4K add-on for YouTube TV but aren't seeing the option to watch Super Bowl 2024 in 4K on CBS: It's likely because you're using a custom sort on your live channel listings. (Which is something you might have done if you want to hide YouTube TV channels that you never watch.) That'a bad enough for the game itself, and it also means you won't be able to enjoy the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 4K.

This is a known problem — and has been for years — anytime YouTube TV adds a new channel to the listing. If you're not using the default sort on the live channel listings, a new channel will appear at the bottom of the listings, which is bad enough. But worse is that it's hidden by default until you actively go in and unhide it.

Amazon has flipped the switch on its AI Art feature, allowing owners of the 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K Max and the Fire TV Omni QLED Series televisions to create their own computer-generated backgrounds. This feature was announced at Amazon's fall 2023 hardware and services event, and one about which we went deeper in our interview with Amazon Director of Fire TV Experience Joshua Danovitz.

Panasonic’s latest OLED TVs are the first with Amazon Fire TV built-in
A Panasonic OLED TV with the Amazon Fire TV interface.

Fans of Amazon's Fire TV experience haven't had a lot of options when it comes to buying TVs that don't require an external streaming device in order to access Amazon's streaming interface. But today, that changes in a big way with an announcement from Panasonic that its newest OLED TVs will have Fire TV built-in, making them the first OLED TVs to do so.

Initially, the global partnership between Panasonic and Amazon will focus on two OLED TV models, the Panasonic Z95A, which will be available in 55- and 65-inch screen sizes, and the Panasonic Z93A, which will come in a 77-inch size. However, it's expected that Panasonic will roll out additional Fire TV-based models in the future.
