Dell Vostro V13 Ultraportable Aims at Business Users

Computer maker Dell made a splash earlier this year with its super-slim Adamo notebook; now, the company is bringing some of the same savvy to business customers in the form of the Vostro V13 ultraportable, featuring a 13.3-inch display, a case as slim as 0.65 inches, Windows 7, up to 4 GB of RAM, and prices starting at just $449.

“Not long ago, business travelers like me had to choose mobility and affordability at the expense of performance. That’s no longer the case with the V13,” said Dell’s global VP for small and medium business Sam Burd, in a statement. “This 13-inch small business laptop is in a category all its own as entrepreneurs now have quality performance, battery life, and security combined with a thin and lightweight design sturdy enough for today’s business.”

the Vostro V13s feature ultra-low voltage Intel Celeron, Core 2 Solo, or Core 2 Duo processors, Intel DMA 4500MHD graphics, support for up to 4 GM of RAM, and up to 500 GB of hard drive storage. The systems also sport a 13.3-inch 1,366 by 768 anti-glare display, 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 wireless networking, gigabit Ethernet, a USB port plus a combo USB/eSATA port, a 5-in-1 media card reader, a 34mm ExpressCard slot, plus microphone and speaker/headphone outputs and an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam. Users can also pick up an optional external DVD burner, an optional mobile broadband module—and the systems come with remote on-call support and optional warranty plans that extend coverage up to three years.

The Vostro V13s start at just $449, with other standard packages going for $599 and $649 for Celeron, Core 2 Solo, and Core 2 Duo processors, respectively. The V13s ship with Windows 7, although that $449 edition is packed with Ubuntu Linux and somehow left its webcam on the assembly room floor.

This popular Dell business laptop is discounted from $849 to $579
Dell Vostro 14 sitting on a table

If you're looking for a solid business laptop that's both portable and won't break the bank, then you'll be very happy with the Vostro 14. Not only is it highly rated, but it's still packed with features for being such a small device, and while it can be a little bit pricey at MSRP, you can get it for a steep discount. Dell has knocked an impressive $270 off the usual $849 price tag, bringing it down to a much more affordable $579, making it an excellent deal if you've been looking for a new device.

Why you should buy the Vostro 14
For being only a small 14-inch laptop, the Vostro 14 has some pretty good specs and a couple of ones that maybe should have been slightly better. For example, you get 16GB of DDR4 RAM, which is really excellent, especially for a more business-oriented laptop, so you can open a lot of apps and tabs at the same time. On the other hand, you only get an Intel Core i5-1335U, which is a mid-range processor, and while it's absolutely fine for business work and productivity, it would have been nice to get the higher-end Intel Core i7-1355U for a bit extra power and versatility.

The Dell XPS 13, open on a table in front of a window.

With the arrival of the new Dell XPS 13, the previous-generation Dell XPS 13 was on sale for just $599 in January and February. We thought the offer for $200 off from the laptop's sticker price of $799 was gone, but it's back as part of a clearance sale from Dell. If you missed the chance at getting the device with a discount for the past couple of months, you wouldn't want to waste this opportunity. To make sure that you pocket the savings this time around, you better push through with the purchase immediately.

Why you should buy the Dell XPS 13
The Dell XPS reset brings a new Dell XPS 13, but the previous-generation Dell XPS 13, which is powered by the 12th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, and 8GB of RAM, is still a worthwhile purchase today. It's more than enough to tackle your daily tasks for work or school, and its 13.4-inch Full HD+ screen is small enough to maintain portability but sharp enough so you'll get a clear look at your projects. The laptop is also sleek and stylish, which makes it stand out among other options with the same size.
