Xbox Games with Gold for August includes 'Trials Fusion,' 'Bayonetta'

Xbox - August 2017 Games with Gold
August is looking like one of the busiest months for game releases all year. It can be overwhelming just thinking about how much money you could spend on both AAA and indie games, but if you want to be a little more frugal, the Xbox Games with Gold program has you covered.

For the entire month of August, Xbox One players can download Slime Rancher. The game was previously available on PC in early access but will be making its full debut on August 1. The first- person wrangling game has an art style that looks like a slightly more varied No Man’s Sky and it looks like the perfect game for the whole family to enjoy.

From August 16 through September 15, Xbox One owners can also snag Trials Fusion. RedLynx’s motorcycle platforming game is incredibly addictive and its obstacles gradually get more difficult until the last few missions are nearly impossible to conquer. An “FMX” mode also allows you to try out your best tricks in the air and the game actually has a story — though extremely basic and cryptic, it delves into concepts surrounding artificial intelligence and can leave you with a surprising amount of ennui.

Xbox 360 players — and Xbox One players through backward compatibility — will be able to grab the original Bayonetta from August 1 through August 15. The hack-and-slash game was directed by famed designer Hideki Kamiya and builds on the combat and platforming he had created in the Devil May Cry series. A sequel is also available on the Wii U and there are rumors of a port for the Nintendo Switch, as well.

Lastly, from August 16 through the end of the month, Xbox 360 and Xbox One players can download Red Faction: Armageddon. The series is known for its destructible environments, the sequel tasks you with making your way across Mars, venturing underground as you kill hideous aliens.

Which game from this month’s lineup are you looking forward to playing the most? We are particularly excited to dive back into Bayonetta. Developer PlatinumGames and Kamiya were previously working on the Xbox One exclusive Scalebound before it was canceled earlier this year. The developer recently released the excellent Nier: Automata, as well.

The good news? Summer Game Fest is filling that gap, alongside several streams that'll orbit around it. The bad news? Keeping track of it all is a huge pain.

Over the next few months, we'll see scattered shows from Sony, Xbox, Nintendo, Ubisoft, and more game companies. To help make your life a little easier, we're rounding them up in one place. We'll keep this article updated throughout the summer, adding in the VODs of all the streams once they air, so check back in from now until September so you don't miss a single show.

Xbox Game Pass has its own Super Mario Odyssey, and it’s a delight
A giant ghost is wrapped in chains in Hauntii.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have a lot of advantages over the Switch, but there's one advantage Nintendo never loses: games. While Sony and Microsoft struggle to put out consistent exclusives, Nintendo always manages to put out fairly high-quality games on a monthly bases (even if some recent releases have felt like filler). The fact that you can only play Super Mario Odyssey on a Nintendo console will always be the company's ace in the hole.

Thankfully, enough developers have been influenced by Nintendo's design that it's not hard to find a great title that scratches the same itch as a Nintendo classic on competing platforms. Just look at games like the Pikmin-inspired Tinykin. Xbox has been especially smart about seeking out games like that over the years and adding them to Xbox Game Pass. It's done that once again with one of its newest additions, the delightful Hauntii.

After days of speculation, Xbox confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will come to Xbox Game Pass at launch. Xbox has not specified which platforms it will come to, though.

When Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was officially announced last week, fans immediately began speculating about its Game Pass status. It's the first Call of Duty title released since Microsoft successfully acquired Activision Blizzard, so a Game Pass launch seemed likely. While the announcement was initially leaked by a Game Pass notification, Xbox has now officially confirmed that the game is bound for the service.
