‘Monster Hunter World’ hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in January

Monster Hunter: World - TGS 2017 Trailer
Monster Hunter Stories available now for 3DS, giving you the chance to control magical beasts in a Pokémon-style role-playing game, but if you’ve been waiting for the next “real” installment of the series to hit consoles, you’re in luck. Monster Hunter World is out this January, and it’s coming with an impressive collector’s edition.

On both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, players will be able to purchase the Monster Hunter World Collector’s Edition for $150. This version of the game includes a Samurai skin set, extra gestures, hair options, face paint, and stickers, as well as a hardcover art book, digital soundtrack code, and a “flagship monster statue.” The statue is of the “Nergigante,” which features enormous spikes coming out of its body as well as two large horns on its head, almost like the Cyberdemon from Doom. It is very small, however, coming in at under 5 inches tall.

For $70, players can get all of the digital bonuses included in the Collector’s Edition, and those who pre-order will also get access to the “Origin Set Armor” and “Fair Wind Charm” talisman, though Capcom said that these items could be available to all players down the line — PlayStation 4 players who pre-order the digital version of the game will also receive a special theme.

A new trailer for the game was released as part of the Tokyo Game Show, offering a stunning look at its environments and new monsters. The locations are varied, from Avatar-like purple and blue regions to sprawling deserts, and the battles look like they’ll be as entertaining as ever. Our favorite monster, seen about halfway through the trailer, looks like a cross between a cotton ball and a bat, and quickly “deflates” as it attacks the hunter on the ground. Others are more menacing, and unlike the plastic figurine, the Nergigante in the game is absolutely enormous.

Monster Hunter World is out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, 2018, with a PC release coming later. It’s the first main entry to hit home consoles since Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U in 2012, as recent entries have stuck to the 3DS, instead.

MLB The Show 23 returns to Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch this March
Jazz Chisholm's cover art for MLB The Show 23.

Sony San Diego Studios announced MLB The Show 23 today, and confirmed that it will launch across all major PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo systems on March 28.
No new platforms were added this year, so PC players aren't getting in on the fun. Still, this announcement makes it clear that MLB The Show is a multiplatform series across PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms for the foreseeable future. Xbox's version of the trailer also confirms that MLB The Show 23 will be on Xbox Game Pass at launch, making this first-party Sony series a day-one Game Pass title three years in a row.
MLB The Show 23 - Cover Athlete Reveal
As is typically the case with sports games, MLB The Show 23's reveal was primarily focused on its cover athlete. We learned that Jazz Chisholm Jr., a second baseman for the Miami Marlins, will grace the cover of the game. Like last year, the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will cost $60, while players  on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S without Xbox Game Pass will need to pay $70. So far, no new gameplay features have been teased, although a blog post confirms that cross-platform multiplayer, saves, and progression across all versions of the game will return this year.
So far, there's not a lot that actually seems new about MLB The Show 23, but this reveal concludes the genesis of a new era for the long-running baseball series. MLB The Show 23 will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on March 28.

Xbox Game Pass adds a little and loses a lot this month
persona 4 golden 500000 players all out attack

Microsoft revealed the games coming to and leaving Xbox Game Pass this month, and there's an odd imbalance. Only three new games are announced to be coming to the service throughout the rest of January. Still, we will lose six games on January 15, including last year's indie hidden gem Nobody Saves the World and We Happy Few, a title from first-party Xbox studio Compulsion Games.
As for what's coming to Xbox Game Pass throughout the rest of January, we have three highly anticipated Xbox ports that are day-one launches on the subscription service. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will come to the service on January 19, while Monster Hunter Rise will be added on January 20. All three games will be available across the cloud, console, and PC versions of the service. Meanwhile, the what's leaving on January 15 list is double the length of what's being added:

We Happy Few
Nobody Saves the World
Windjammers 2
The Anacrusis
Pupperazzi
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Monster Hunter Rise will not support cross-saves or cross-progression between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This means that players who start their journeys on PlayStation 4 will have to start anew if they wish to play on PlayStation 5 later on.

Yesterday, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rise was coming to PlayStation and Xbox in January 2023. Microsoft stated that players can continue their progress between Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and the Xbox app on Windows PC.
