Monster Hunter World will follow the franchise’s triumphant return to consoles later this month with its first PC release, now slated for the fall of 2018. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto took to Twitter with a brief video thanking fans for their invaluable feedback during the beta testing process and announcing that the game is currently being optimized for PC, aiming for an autumn 2018 release. He promised more details soon. Tsujimoto ends the video by promising that they will release free updates to Monster Hunter World after it launches for consoles on January 26, including new monsters. There’s no word yet on the frequency or size of these anticipated content updates.

After several entries on the 3DS handheld, Monster Hunter World marks the series’ return to home consoles in a bid to expand the games’ niche (but passionate) fan community, particularly outside of its native Japan. The game launches for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26. Our hands-off live demo at E3 last year when the game was announced piqued our interest, and everything we have subsequently learned has kept it as one of our most anticipated upcoming games of 2018. 2017 was a pretty astounding year for gaming, so it leaves large shoes to fill, but Monster Hunter World is certainly a strong start.

An autumn 2018 release will give its chief competitor on PC, indie Monster Hunter-like Dauntless, a chance to establish itself when it soon enters public beta. Developer Phoenix Labs is stacked with former staffers from League of Legends‘ Riot Games, but they are nevertheless an underdog in a genre more or less invented by Capcom’s long-running franchise. Dauntless aims to translate the Monster Hunter formula into a more elegant, Western-friendly package that’s built for PC from the ground up. Capcom has a mixed history with porting its console titles to PC, so time will tell how well Dauntless holds up in a direct comparison to Monster Hunter World. We quite enjoyed hunting monsters in the bright, stylized world of Dauntless when we got our hands on it at the end of last year. Regardless, PC gamers will have a glut of options for hunting giant beasts with their friends by the end of 2018.

Capcom and Niantic are collaborating on Monster Hunter Now, a new, real-world mobile RPG following in the footsteps of titles like Pokémon Go and NBA All-World. Players will be able to explore their neighborhood, alone or with friends, find materials, and fight monsters at locations near them. An open beta for the game begins later this month ahead of a full launch in September, but that comes after a four-year development cycle and a lot of work in refining the core gameplay loop of Monster Hunter into a very different style of game.

persona 4 golden 500000 players all out attack

Microsoft revealed the games coming to and leaving Xbox Game Pass this month, and there's an odd imbalance. Only three new games are announced to be coming to the service throughout the rest of January. Still, we will lose six games on January 15, including last year's indie hidden gem Nobody Saves the World and We Happy Few, a title from first-party Xbox studio Compulsion Games.
As for what's coming to Xbox Game Pass throughout the rest of January, we have three highly anticipated Xbox ports that are day-one launches on the subscription service. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will come to the service on January 19, while Monster Hunter Rise will be added on January 20. All three games will be available across the cloud, console, and PC versions of the service. Meanwhile, the what's leaving on January 15 list is double the length of what's being added:

We Happy Few
Nobody Saves the World
Windjammers 2
The Anacrusis

Monster Hunter Rise will not support cross-saves or cross-progression between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This means that players who start their journeys on PlayStation 4 will have to start anew if they wish to play on PlayStation 5 later on.

Yesterday, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rise was coming to PlayStation and Xbox in January 2023. Microsoft stated that players can continue their progress between Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and the Xbox app on Windows PC.
