Dell Brings Core i5 and i7 to Studio XPS Desktops

Computer maker Dell has wasted no time getting out the door with new systems offering Intel’s latest desktop processors, announcing its new Studio XPS 8000 and 9000 models, available with either Intel Core i5 or the latest Intel Core i7 processor. The Studio XPS 9000 is a full-sized traditional PC tower, while the Studio XPS 8000 is more of a mini-tower design for the space conscious—or folks who don’t see themselves loading up with oodles of hard drives and PCI cards. The XPS Studio 9000 will debut as a replacement for the Studio XPS 435, and Dell is positioning both as high-end multimedia machines.

The XPS Studio 8000 is available with either Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processors (both are quad-core) and either ATI or Nvidia graphics options (including the ATI HD 3450 and Nvidia’s GT220, GTS240, and GTX260 graphics cards). The Studio XPS 800 supports up to two internal hard drives (RAID configurations are supported), along with an eSATA port, a whopping 8 USB 2.0 ports (four in back, two in front, and two on top), gigabit Ethernet, a IEEE 1394 port, and a 19-in-1 media card reader. The unit also features a top-mounted power button, along with top-mounted mic and headset connectors: Dell’s product pictures might show the 8000 on a desktop, but the connector profile is clearly meant to be under a desk. Available options include a 6× Blu-ray burner and a 16× DVD±RW drive (there’s room for two optical drives) and a TV tuner.

The Studio XPS 8000 is available now at prices starting at $799.

Dell XPS 13 and XPS 15 prices slashed for Memorial Day — from $599

If you're looking at Dell Memorial Day deals for a new laptop, here are a couple of offers that you should consider -- the Dell XPS 13 with a $200 discount that slashes its price to $599 from $799, and the Dell XPS 15 at $300 off, bringing its price down to $1,199 from $1,499. These are previous-generation models following the Dell XPS reset, and in the case of the Dell XPS 15, it's the last iteration of the laptop as it's been replaced by the Dell XPS 14. However, both of them are still worthwhile purchases, especially with the savings that you can pocket if you buy them for the holiday. You need to be quick though, as their prices may go back to normal at any time.

The previous-generation Dell XPS 13 remains in our list of the best laptops as the best budget laptop, as it's aggressively priced for a premium laptop with such a striking design. The 13.4-inch Full HD+ screen is surrounded by extremely narrow bezels, and it's got enough performance for the daily activities required by work or school with its 12th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, and 8GB of RAM. The laptop runs on Windows 11 Home out of the box, with the operating system pre-loaded in its 256GB SSD, and it has a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports for charging and connectivity with your accessories.

Dell is hiding something about the new XPS 13

Someone needs to give Dell a lesson in marketing, because it hid the most impressive part of the new XPS 13. The upcoming laptop is the first to feature a Tandem OLED display, as Dell confirmed to The Verge.

Tandem OLED is all the rage right now, with Apple introducing the display tech first with the iPad Pro M4. The concept behind Tandem OLED is simple. In order to increase the historically low brightness of OLED, you stack multiple OLED panels on top of each other. We haven't heard of any other shipping device using this display tech, outside of the upcoming XPS 13.
