Peripheral and accessories maker Belkin has announced a new improved version of its Laptop Cooling Pad, designed to keep notebook computers running cooly and efficiently while at the same time keeping users’s thighs remarkably unburned. As processor speed and graphics power in notebook computers has increases, so has the amount of heat they give off—as a result, so-called “laptop” computers are rarely usable in actual “laps” for any significant length of time, particularly if they’re being asked to do something computationally or graphically intensive.
Belkin’s Laptop Cooling Pad offers a USB-powered fan to keep air flowing underneath the notebook (helping keep components cool and, in theory, extending their life span) along with a new patent-pending AirFlow Wing shape that improves air circulation. The Laptop Cooling Pad can handle notebook computers up to 15.4 inches, and comes with a USB cable for powering the fan: the cable can be tucked into a storage compartment for travel or when not in use.
The Laptop Cooling Pad should be available in April in black or white colors for a suggested price of $29.99.
