Oracle announced today in a very brief statement that it has acquired service broker, Convergin. The company says that this new partnership should provide a “single carrier-grade, standards-based IT platform” that will allow consumer service providers to evolve at a lower total cost of ownership. Convergin’s J2EE-based Service Broker platform seemed to be the main appeal for the company’s acquisition. The J2EE-based platform enables communications service providers to better manage their services on various networks and platforms.
“As communications service providers transition from legacy telephony networks to next-generation networks, the combination of Oracle and Convergin will accelerate new service innovation while reducing network complexity and cost,” says Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications.
The company released statement did not disclose any financial details but did confirm the transaction is expected to close the first half of this year.
