The best Nintendo Switch deal for Cyber Week includes a $20 credit and a case

Some of the best bundles and deals have come and gone with the passing of Cyber Monday, but there are a few solid deals that remain. The holiday shopping season is still going strong with the latest Cyber Week sales happening at Walmart, Amazon, and Best Buy right now. One such sale is this Walmart-exclusive Nintendo Switch Bundle with Mario Red Joy-Con, $20 Nintendo eShop Credit, and Carrying Case. Nintendo Switch deals like this don’t come around all too often, so you won’t want to let this one slip.

For $300 you get the Mario red left and right Joy-Con controllers, along with an updated version of Nintendo’s eight-generation handheld/home console hybrid. It offers an increased battery life ranging from 4.5 to 9 hours depending on the game being played while using your Switch in handheld mode. This bundle also includes a $20 store credit for Nintendo’s digital storefront, Nintendo eShop, as well as a carrying case that’s ideal for those who are playing their Switch in handheld mode. Another interesting detail about this bundle is the Joy-Con controller color variant – most Nintendo Switch consoles include either space gray or red/blue Joy-Cons with the console. This is the second Nintendo Switch bundle to include the Mario red Joy-Con color scheme. it joins the Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo Switch bundle released a few years back.

In the past, Nintendo has been extremely stingy when it comes to discounting its gaming systems, especially the Nintendo Switch and the recently released Nintendo Switch Lite. Even though the Walmart-exclusive deal does not offer massive savings on the system, the bundle does include a free carrying case, which is ideal for playing their Switch on the go. The $20 Nintendo eShop credit allows users to purchase a digital game for the system. Though it does not come with any titles, you can take a look at some of the best Nintendo Switch games on the market today.

More Nintendo Switch deals

Alongside this amazing deal, Walmart is offering discounts on several digital games available on the Switch, including The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Mario Tennis Aces, both of which are $40 each. Although you cannot use your $20 eShop credit to purchase some digital games via Walmart, the Nintendo eShop does offer a more expansive library of digital titles for you to purchase, or you can use the eShop credit to purchase some downloadable content for select games, including Mortal Kombart 11 or Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, both of which include post-launch content that adds additional fighters to each game’s roster.

Switch vs. PS4 vs. Xbox One: Which console should you buy?

When it comes to overall power, the Switch can’t really compete with Xbox or PS4 consoles. So if you’re going to compare the Switch to the Xbox One or PS4, you really want to stick to looking at the exclusives. Nintendo is one of those companies that has really built up their brand from nostalgic game franchises like Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda, which you won’t find on any other system. It also comes with a bevy of really good indie games that have been produced solely on the platform.

Another main difference between the Switch and its competitors is the ability to switch between handheld and console mode. This versatility has really given Nintendo the advantage with anyone who enjoys gaming on the go.

Hades 2 shows the Steam Deck’s biggest advantage over the Nintendo Switch
A Steam Deck sits next to a Switch OLED.

It's always an exciting week when the sequel to one of the greatest games of all time surprise releases on a Monday. That's what happened on May 6 when Hades 2 surprise launched into early access. Players are already diving into the surprisingly robust roguelike, testing their might in its new biomes. I've been enjoying it myself from the comfort of my couch -- and not on my Nintendo Switch, where I played the first Hades. Instead, I'm curled up with my Steam Deck.

The PC-only launch means that Hades 2 is a Steam Deck "exclusive" for the time being (or at least exclusive to portable PCs like it and the Asus ROG Ally). It'll likely come to Nintendo's system -- or its predecessor -- once it hits 1.0, but developer Supergiant doesn't expect its game to leave early access until at least the end of 2024. Until then, you'll need a device like the Steam Deck to play it on the go. That's a reminder that Valve has beaten the Switch at its own game, and Nintendo will have to get creative again with its next system to regain its throne.
Early access on the go
Based on my time with it so far, Hades 2 is a phenomenal match for the Steam Deck. It's already Verified for the platform, and for good reason. It looks fantastic (especially on an OLED screen) and runs smoothly. I've already taken it on the go and found that it's not a huge drain on the Steam Deck's battery. At this point, I don't imagine I'll need to play it any other way.

3 retro classics to play on Nintendo Switch Online this weekend (May 3-5)
Kirby and his friends post in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror art.

With rumors of a new Nintendo console heating up, it's once again time to accept that the Switch's long lifespan is coming to its end. 2024 will likely be the system's last full year before a successor steals its thunder. That's apparent in Nintendo's recent first-party offerings, as the system is getting a lot of remasters and niche curveballs this year. As exclusives like Endless Ocean: Luminous underwhelm, you may have found yourself looking for reasons to fire up your Switch.

Thankfully, you have a lot of great excuses to do so if you're subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online. The service is home to plenty of classic games from the NES up to the Nintendo 64. Even if you're a game historian, there's a good chance you haven't played everything Switch Online has to offer. This weekend, I have three recommendations for anyone looking to fire up some great, old games. These aren't random picks; I've chosen three games that feel spiritually linked to some of this spring's biggest games.

The best skills to buy first in Another Crab’s Treasure
Another Crab's Treasure

If you're looking for a quirky underwater adventure, Another Crab's Treasure has you covered with its kelp forests, unusual sand-dwelling NPCs, and creative gameplay mechanics. However, it's worth noting that it's also a challenging soulslike experience that is certain to leave you facing off against some enemies multiple times before felling them. One way to help this along is to invest in the game's skills, which often grant you some entirely new attacks or passive abilities that drastically change up the way you approach combat.

There are three skill trees, but you can mix and match between them as you see fit. And luckily, thorough explorers shouldn't have a problem unlocking most of the skills by the end of the game. Here are our picks for the best ones to buy first to increase your chances of getting there.
