Go on a Buddy Adventure in Pokémon Go to become closer to your monsters

Pokémon Go continues to be one of the biggest location-based augmented reality (AR) games around, and continued updates and new features have certainly gone a long way toward enabling its longevity. Soon, a Buddy Adventure system will be coming to the game, giving you yet another way to interact with your Pokémon and blur the line between fantasy and reality.

With the new Buddy Adventure feature, you will be able to choose a Pokémon to play with, feed, and keep by your side as you explore the world. The more you interact with it and build up your connection, the more benefits you’ll see in other areas of the game. Get them to the “good buddy” rating and they’ll show up on your map. Reach the “great buddy” level and they can even help during wild encounters and bring you extra items.

“Remember: Friendship is something you build together!” developer Niantic said in an announcement. “So be sure to complete the daily activities with your buddy each day to earn more affection and become fast friends!”

Pokémon GO Buddy Adventures

You’ll be able to play with your buddy in AR+ mode as well, making it appear as if they’re hanging out with you right in your living room or in a park. Depending on the monster you are buddies with, they may react in a different way.

The new Buddy Adventure feature was introduced in a trailer (above) that may have drawn a few of our tears. It shows a child going through his early years with a stuffed Squirtle toy before playing with his Buddy Squirtle in Pokémon Go. Once we can go surfing with our Squirtle or wear matching sunglasses as members of the Squirtle Squad, we may never stop playing the game.

In the future, Niantic will also be adding the ability to see your friends’ Buddy Pokémon via a shared AR experience. Using this method, you’ll be able to sync up with up to two other trainers and take a group photo that shows off everyone’s Pokémon. Buddy Adventure will start rolling out in 2020, so keep an eye out and don’t miss your chance to make a new friend. The new games Pokémon Sword and Shield are available now on Nintendo Switch.

No, Palworld isn’t going to be a ‘Pokémon killer’

We have our first hit video game of 2024, and it's a shocker. The eccentric Palworld, an early access game available now on PC and Xbox Game Pass, is smashing Steam records as developer Pocketpair sells millions of copies. That's thanks in large part thanks to its bizarre elevator pitch, which is succinctly described as "Pokémon with guns."

That success has come with some heated debates. Palworld earned a lot of criticism in its inaugural weekend as players discovered monster designs that looked nearly identical to some of those in Pokémon. Accusations of plagiarism ballooned into suspicions over AI usage that have yet to be proven. An army of already dedicated fans have rushed to its defense with their own over-the-top claims. That army includes disgruntled Pokémon fans who see the new game as an antidote to buggy titles like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Palworld defenders have already labeled it a "Pokémon killer" and hope that Game Freak learns from its success.

No matter how old and cynical I get, there’s one constant in my life: I’m always delighted by Pokémon. Even in the franchise’s weakest moments, it rarely fails to make me smile. I’ve spent more time than I can count checking in with Pokémon Sleep this year, and even the middling Detective Pikachu Returns got some “Awws” from me. It’s the one piece of media that never ceases to take the tired adult in me and briefly turn him into a kid again.

Pokémon Concierge, a new four-part animated series available now on Netflix, understands that feeling more than any Pokémon game I’ve played in years. The gentle show takes place at a resort that exclusively caters to Pokémon in need of a break. Rather than focusing on flashy battles or lore-heavy stories about monsters that control space and time, the slice-of-life series simply understands the inherent joy of momentarily tuning out the real world with some adorable critters. It’s a sweet slice of stress-free escapism – one that the wider video game series could stand to take a few notes from.

Pokémon Concierge is the latest project from Dwarf Studio, the animation studio behind Netflix’s positively precious Rilakkuma and Kaoru. Like that show, it features a stop-motion animation style that lends its good-natured world a level of hand-crafted, humanistic charm. Monsters like Hopip and Diglett appear as bright puppets lined with soft felt. They are stuffed animals come to life, and I couldn’t help wishing that I could squeeze them.

All new and returning Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk

Terapagos
This is the poster child for this DLC, and is going to play a major part of the game's story. Because of its importance, we don't know almost any details about it, including what type it is, except that it does have a Terastal Form.
