When a great deal drops for one of the best current gaming consoles, that’s when holdouts jump in, and the most avid fans invest in a second or third machine. If you fit one of those profiles, get ready to jump, because Walmart slashed the price of the Sony down to just $300 — a savings of $100 from the usual $400.

We named the Sony PS4 Pro the best gaming console of 2019 just two months ago. Its leadership position remains intact. You can count on Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo launching new gaming platforms in the future. However, if you’re shopping for the gaming console with the best games and the hardware to make them look stunning, the Sony PlayStation 4 Pro is your best choice today.

The PS4 Pro 1 TB’s 4K gaming system with HDR support creates awesome visuals with 4K TVs. Our reviewer also found that the PlayStation 4 Pro makes games look great even on 1080p TVs. You won’t have to buy all new titles either, because the Pro model supports all PS4 games.

The Sony PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB has more ports than earlier models. You’ll find three USB 3.1 port in all (two on front and one of the back). The Pro has an HDMI 2.0 port and an optical video port. The original PS4 had an optical port, but it was dropped for the PS4 Slim to save space. The full port selection ensures your ability hook up to a greater variety of display devices, which always comes in handy. The 1TB hard drive is a good start, but the PS4 Pro’s ability to swap the stock drive out for any 2.5-inch SATA hard drive is another nod to avid players.

Red Dead Redemption is coming to Nintendo Switch and PS4 this month

The original Red Dead Redemption is coming to two new platforms, PS4 and Nintendo Switch, later this month. It'll retail for $50 on both platforms.

Rockstar Games' open-world western game first launched in 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3. It was critically acclaimed and a smash sales hit, creating a new franchise for Rockstar that could stand alongside the likes of Grand Theft Auto. It received a sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, in 2019, but the original Red Dead Redemption remained stuck on older platforms outside of backward compatibility support on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
That's why fans got excited when a rating for the game from the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea popped up. We've now learned that this rating is for new Nintendo Switch and PS4 ports of Red Dead Redemption by Double Eleven Studios. Red Dead Redemption will release across both of those platforms digitally on August 17, with a physical launch to follow on October 13.

It will cost $50 and includes the base campaign as well as the zombie-infested Undead Nightmare expansion; the Red Dead Online multiplayer is not included. This is the first time Red Dead Redemption will ever be on a Nintendo system, although it doesn't look like the port will have much in the way of Switch-exclusive features. That said, a press release does reveal that this will be the first version of the game to include Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Latin American Spanish, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese localizations.
Red Dead Redemption comes out on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17.

PS Plus subscribers can get PS4’s most underrated exclusive for free next month

Sony announced the three-game lineup that PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can redeem for free throughout the month of August. It's an odd batch of titles that includes a sports game, one of 2021's best indies, and a user-generated, content-focused PS4 exclusive that never got the love it deserved.

Specifically, those three games are PGA Tour 2K23, Death's Door, and Dreams.

5 features we’d need from a PS5 Pro to justify an upgrade

A new version of the PlayStation 5 may be on the horizon – at least if you believe the leaks. Earlier this week, Insider Gaming reported that a PS5 Pro is in development and is scheduled for a late 2024 launch. Considering that the rumor site previously claimed that a PS5 with a detachable drive would launch this year, you might want to take the claim with some skepticism. Insider Gaming provided no actual details on specs or what a Pro model would entail, only claiming that a source says it's in the works.

There’s not a lot to go on there, but just about any educated gamer could predict that a PS5 Pro is coming in the next year or two. Sony previously followed the PlayStation 4 with a PS4 Pro, which would improve the system’s power three years after its launch. It’s reasonable to think that PS5 would get the same treatment four years later -- which would likely be near the halfway point of its life span.
