Everything revealed at September’s Ubisoft Forward livestream

The latest Ubisoft Forward livestream featured several new announcements and updates to current Ubisoft games.

Prior to the stream, Ubisoft released a four-minute video in which CEO Yves Guillemot apologized for recent sexual harassment and racism issues at the studio.

Ubisoft Forward preshow

The Ubisoft Forward preshow featured exclusive premieres, including the recently rumored Far Cry VR: Dive Into Insanity and Agos, a VR spaceflight game coming later this year. Ubisoft confirmed that The Division 2 will be backward-compatible with next-gen consoles.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising

The action-adventure game Immortals: Fenyx Rising, formerly Gods & Monsters, will arrive December 3. A gameplay trailer showed off the game’s over-the-top combat system and stylized open world. The game will offer a free playable demo exclusive to Google Stadia players.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

The 2003 game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is getting remade with enhanced graphics and a new targeting system. The game will be released on January 21, 2021, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. There was no mention, however, about whether the game will be on next-generation consoles.

Hyperspace

The free-to-play battle royale game Hyperspace is getting a limited-time mode featuring high-level gear and faster health regeneration.

Rainbow Six: Siege

Rainbow Six: Siege is getting a next-gen update this year that supports 4K and 120 frames per second. Current console owners will get the upgrade for free. The new season of Rainbow Six: Siege, which features Sam Fisher, is live right now.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition

The long-lost Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game is finally coming back to consoles. A complete edition of the game will drop this holiday season and come with two new characters: Knives Chau and Wallace Wells.

Watch Dogs: Legion

Ubisoft revealed that rapper Stormzy will provide music for the upcoming Watch Dogs: Legion. A new trailer for the game showed off new characters and abilities, including a hacker who can shock enemies, a street artist with a nonlethal paintball gun, and a beekeeper who attacks enemies with swarms of bees. The game features characters with negative attributes as well, like low mobility. Characters can be customized with tools like the spider bot.

Aiden Pearce from the original Watch Dogs game will be a fully playable character in Legion post launch. A new story chapter will be included in the game’s season pass, as well.

Riders Republic

Riders Republic is a new mass multiplayer, extreme sports franchise. Built around social interaction, players ski, ride bikes, and more around different environments like snowy mountains. The game has a zany style that looks similar to games like Trials Rising. The game features competitions similar to the X Games and community challenges where players can compete with one another.

Riders Republic launches on February 25 and is available for pre-order now.

Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

September's State of Play presentation finally happened, and it gave us a clear look at what is coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 between now and early 2024. The third Nintendo Direct of the year just aired, and it established clear expectations for what players should expect as we head into what may be the final year of the Switch's life as Nintendo's main platform. Remakes of games like Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door were confirmed, the Princess Peach game finally got a full title, and some dormant retro series like Contra and F-Zero are getting brand new games.

Microsoft gives Activision Blizzard cloud gaming rights to Ubisoft
Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming Service Enters Beta This Week

Microsoft announced its intention to grant Ubisoft, the publisher behind series like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, the cloud streaming rights for Activision Blizzard titles if Microsoft's acquisition of the Call of Duty publisher goes through.
This deal was made in order to appease the U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Microsoft has not had an easy time trying to acquire Activision Blizzard as it has run into heavy resistance from regulatory bodies like the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the U.K.'s CMA. The CMA's complaints centered around the potential monopoly Microsoft could have on cloud gaming if the deal were to go through. There was speculation that Microsoft would divest its U.K. cloud gaming efforts to appease the CMA, but it has now presented this new plan that would technically make it give up control of Activision Blizzard game-streaming rights worldwide for the next 15 years.
In a blog post, Microsoft President Brad Smith explainsed that if the Activision Blizzard acquisition happens, Microsoft will give "cloud streaming rights for all current and new Activision Blizzard PC and console games released over the next 15 years" in perpetuity following a one-off payment.
Essentially, Ubisoft will be the one deciding which cloud gaming platforms and services to put Activision Blizzard games on, not Microsoft. Smith claims that this means "Microsoft will not be in a position either to release Activision Blizzard games exclusively on its own cloud streaming service -- Xbox Cloud Gaming -- or to exclusively control the licensing terms of Activision Blizzard games for rival services," and that Ubisoft will allow them to honor existing agreements with companies like Nvidia. 

Ubisoft has been cloud gaming friendly over the past several years, eagerly putting its games on services like Google Stadia and Amazon Luna. With this deal, Ubisoft says it plans to bring Activision Blizzard games to its Ubisoft+ subscription service. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick also commented on the deal, saying that he approves of the deal, but that "nothing substantially changes with the addition of this divestiture" for Activision Blizzard and its investors.
The current deadline for Microsoft's Activision Blizzard acquisition is October 18.
