Alien TV series from Noah Hawley is coming to FX and Hulu

Alien fans are in for a treat. FX boss John Landgraf officially announced that a TV series based on the popular movie franchise is in the works.

The show will premiere on FX and Hulu, though a release date is yet to be confirmed.

Landgraf announced the new project at Disney’s online Investor 2020 event on Thursday, December 10.

Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley is working on the series, while Ridley Scott — director of the original Alien movie from 1979 — is reportedly collaborating on the show.

Details about the upcoming series are currently scant, though the franchise’s official Twitter account revealed that it’s set “not too far in the future here on Earth,” making it the first Alien story to take place on terra firma. Audiences are also promised “a scary thrill ride,” but then you’d expect nothing less with anything Alien.

Speaking during Disney’s livestreamed event, Landgraf said FX is “moving quickly” to make a TV series based on what he described as “one of the greatest science-fiction horror classics ever made.”

He added that the show will combine “both the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the nonstop action of the second,” adding that viewers are in for one heck of an experience that will “blow people back in their seats.”

The Alien franchise currently comprises six movies, with the most recent release — Alien: Covenant — landing in 2017. The movies have generated box office revenue totaling more than $1.3 billion dollars (on a combined budget of $370 million), suggesting there are plenty of folks out there waiting eagerly for the first Alien-inspired TV series.
