Fortnite and Verizon team up for in-game Super Bowl LV fan experience

Epic Games and Verizon have teamed up to create a massive Super Bowl LV celebration inside of Fortnite. The fan experience adds a full stadium to the game’s creative mode.

The event begins today and runs through Tuesday, February 9. During that time, players can pop into the game’s creative mode and explore the Verizon 5G stadium, built by Beyond Creative. Verizon says the stadium is the “largest activation ever built in Fortnite‘s creative mode.”

The celebration acts as a sort of all-access event where fans can interact with digital versions of players. Four football minigames will also be playable inside the stadium. Epic teases a few other surprises inside the stadium, including a scavenger hunt.

Verizon will host a digital competition inside the event where football players and popular streamers play some of the stadium’s games. The event will stream on Verizon’s Twitch channel and Twitter on Tuesday, February 2, and Friday, February 5.

Beyond the Verizon collaboration, Fortnite has other plans for Super Bowl week. Gridiron Gang outfits return to the game on Wednesday, February 4. The cosmetics include two outfits for every NFL team and the logo-a-go back bling.

Starting on February 4, Fortnite will get a new mode based on this year’s Super Bowl match-up. Players will be split into teams: The Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Epic says there’s no prize for the event other than bragging rights.

Finally, Twitch and the NFL Players Association will host the Twitch Rivals Streamer Bowl II on Wednesday, February 4. The event features streamers competing in Fortnite for a $1 million nonprofit prize pool. The event will have its own halftime show featuring T-Pain.

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

Surfaced patent shows what an Xbox streaming console would’ve looked like
An Xbox Series X sits next to both Series S models.

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”
