Google Buys Video Service Company Episodic

In a press release issued on Friday, video service provider Episodic confirmed that Google has purchased the media internet company. The move follows a series of similar purchases from Google who hope to expand its YouTube brand.

The move by Google follows a similar acquisition of video internet site, On2 back in February. Episodic is a platform designed to broadcast live and on-demand video to the Web and to Web-enabled devises. Although no details have come from Google about their plans with Episodic, the moves are both likely to help the Google-owned YouTube continue to expand.

“We are thrilled to announce that Episodic has been acquired by Google. The entire Episodic team is extremely excited about this new partnership and what it means for our customers and the evolution of online video,” Noam Lovinsky and Matias Cudich, Co-Founders of Episodic said in their press release. “The Episodic team will join Google and continue its work to bring a great video experience to the Web, mobile phones and IPTV devices. There will be no interruption in service for existing Episodic customers.”

Google has confirmed the purchase, but has not yet discussed specifics of the purchase.

“Episodic and Google share a common vision for video on the Web. Online video will be ubiquitous, engaging, entertaining, informative and effective,” Episodic said. “Both teams place value on creating a great experience for viewers and on delivering a powerful and flexible platform for publishers, marketers and advertisers of all kinds.”
