Free Comic Book Prequel for Inception Available Online

Although Christopher’s Nolan’s Inception doesn’t hit theaters until this Friday, you can get a taste of what is to come online right now for free, thanks to a comic book prequel to the movie, Inception: The Cobol Job, that has debuted on Yahoo. You can check out the comic here.

The 18-page comic is available to be read online or as a downloadable .pdf for mobile devices, and the story ends immediately before the movie begins. The comic is written by Joseph Goldberg, a producer for Inception, and a long-time Nolan collaborator.

Inception stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a man who specializes in subconscious security, but who also steals from the minds of his clients. DiCaprio is joined by Joseph Goron-Levitt, Ken Wantanabe, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page, and Michael Caine. The movie debuts this Friday in theaters and on iMax.

Christopher Nolan is set to go nuclear this week. The filmmaker’s long-awaited 12th film, Oppenheimer, hits theaters opposite Barbie this Friday — making it one-half of the weirdest theatrical double-feature since, hilariously enough, Nolan’s The Dark Knight opened opposite Mamma Mia in 2008. (Oh, how times have and haven’t changed.) While Oppenheimer continues Nolan’s career-long fascination with science, the film also promises to be the longest and most adult production that he’s ever constructed.

The movie's R-rating, $100 million budget, and 3-hour runtime have made it Nolan’s biggest gamble to date. But if any filmmaker can draw audiences in for such a movie, it’s Nolan, a director whose cinematic visions have repeatedly proven to be both popular and profitable. Whether or not Oppenheimer joins his long line of blockbuster successes remains to be seen.

No one does spectacle like Christopher Nolan. The 52-year-old is one of the few filmmakers whose name alone can sell a movie. Over two decades, Nolan has perfectly balanced critically acclaimed films and commercially successful projects. From the indies (Following and Memento) and psychological thrillers (Insomnia and The Prestige) to comic book adaptions (The Dark Knight trilogy) and mind-bending epics (Inception and Interstellar), Nolan continues to create films that feel special and have a "can't miss" appeal.

Nolan's 12th film, Oppenheimer, is scheduled for release on July 21. Before experiencing the WWII biopic about the "father of the atomic bond," revisit Nolan's previous 11 films. Most of them are available on streaming services. However, there are a handful that must be purchased or rented.
