People playing Halo: Reach cheat?! No, there must be some sort of mistake! (By the way, someone definitely needs to invent a sarcasm font.) Bungie has decided to take action against nearly 15,000 gamers who have exploited an online trick that allowed them to rapidly earn credits, which then advanced their rank and unlocked new armor.
Bungie described the one-day ban and credit reset on the company’s official blog, and stated that it was targeting those that frequently, and blatantly, used the exploit to earn credits.
“We are in the process of applying credit resets to approximately 15,000 users who we have identified as the most egregious Challenge Reset abusers,” A representative from Bungie posted. “A one-day credit earning ban has also been applied, mostly to ensure that recipients receive an in-game notification of the action taken.”
The post also stated that the ban was targeting people who completed a challenge more than 20 times, “via intentional network manipulation (i.e., disconnects.)” Those that have received the punishment all have the telltale behavior recorded.
The reset will not affect commendations or legitimately downloaded armor.
“A more comprehensive pass will be occurring in the coming week as our automated Banhammer mechanisms grow accurate enough to satisfy our high bar for burden of proof. If you are thinking about getting an easy 50k credits by using this exploit, I would strongly advise you to reconsider.”
