The developer that brought us Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and the recent Vanquish will soon be receiving his paychecks from ZeniMax Media, the company that owns Bethesda Softworks, Arkane Studios, and id Software.
This might not seem like a big deal, but Mikami is one of the most respected developers in the industry, and ZeniMax– who’s most recent game was Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout: New Vegas– can increase their scope and move to a more global footing.
ZeniMax’s upcoming games, which include some huge titles like Doom 4, Brink, and RAGE, are all being developed in North America, while the recently acquired Arkane Studios is based in France. The acquisition of Tango Gameworks increases the company’s worldwide range and gives it a new foothold into the Japanese market, where its games have met with mixed success.
ZeniMax is quietly positioning itself to become one of the truly elite publishers in the world, and the acquisition of Tango Gameworks will further that claim. If you are a fan of games like Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Doom, then the news that ZeniMax’s reach is increasing is nothing but a good thing.
No word yet on Mikami’s plans, but Tango Gameworks will remain in Japan, and will likely begin to develop a new property for ZeniMax soon.
