Battlefield 2042 fixes one of Battlefield 4’s biggest problems

If you’re like me, you went back to Battlefield 4 some months ago in anticipation of Battlefield 2042. And how could you not? Battlefield 2042‘s reveal trailer and pretty much everything afterward has pointed to it being a direct sequel — both in terms of story and gameplay — to Battlefield 4, so it was time to brush back up on that game’s mechanics and, sadly, deal with its issues.

Battlefield 2042 | Open Beta Trailer

Hellacious helicopters

Battlefield 4 is far from a perfect shooter. It has some overpowered weapons and its netcode is way out of whack. That all paled in comparison to just how powerful some of the game’s vehicles could get, especially its helicopters. Helicopters in Battlefield 4 would get some egregiously overpowered gadgets at high ranks, requiring anyone trying to take one out to use more than a handful of rockets. Those gadgets paired with any given helicopter’s high speed made it nearly impossible to destroy the buggers on larger maps, where players could peek out from behind buildings, cause damage, and quickly run away.

In Battlefield 2042‘s open beta, that doesn’t seem to be a problem just yet, and it may never be a problem, thanks to a series of solid nerfs that have been applied to the game’s helicopters. Compared to Battlefield 4, the helicopters players will find in 2042 are pretty much the exact same — a beefy attack helicopter and a smaller, more nimble scout helicopter. Their weapons are almost identical too, with the only difference being that the scout helicopter also has antipersonnel rockets.

That’s where the similarities begin and end, though. Helicopters in Battlefield 2042 are much slower and less agile than they were in Battlefield 4, especially the attack helicopters. They’re now so clunky and hefty that flying one feels like driving a tank with a propeller attached to the top. For players tired of being tortured by the aerial menaces, these changes are a godsend. Helicopters can’t quickly fly out of lock-on range.

Don’t make the same mistake

Helicopters in Battlefield 2042 still have flares that offer some temporary protection from incoming rockets, but they’re hardly effective against other players that can bait them out. Once they’re spent, a helicopter is vulnerable to punishment, and since they’re so slow, it’s nearly impossible for them to duck out of a rocket’s line of sight. Helicopters aren’t impossible to destroy anymore, and their pilots aren’t going 82-2 each match. They’re finally vulnerable.

Now all I can do is hope that helicopters stay this way when Battlefield 2042 launches. Battlefield 4‘s helicopters were overpowered, without a doubt, but what pushed them to that level were the gadgets players could unlock. After leveling up those vehicles, players could toss EMF jammers that would prevent missiles from locking on for about 10 seconds, along with a self-repair kit that would stabilize the helicopter if it was severely damaged, giving pilots a second chance at life.

For anyone returning to Battlefield 4, or worse yet, just getting into the game recently, it meant that there were players who just couldn’t be killed once they stepped foot in a helicopter. Depending on Battlefield 2042‘s approach to vehicle progression, that may not be the case.

Players should absolutely be rewarded for reaching high levels, but they shouldn’t be given pseudo invincibility on the battlefield. However 2042 plans to reward its players for spending time in a helicopter, it can’t tip the odds endlessly in their favor. The vehicle’s dominance in Battlefield 4 already shows what happens when that’s the case, and it’s a mistake that shouldn’t be made twice in a row.

Marvel Snap will fix its biggest problem by adding a new shop
marvel snap token shop update fixes big problem

Marvel Snap from the former Hearthstone devs at Second Dinner made a strong first impression when it launched and is considered one of the best mobile games of 2022. Unfortunately, one issue that's plagued the game since its beta days: it's impossible to unlock specific cards intentionally. Thankfully, the next season of Marvel Snap will change that. During a developer update video teasing The Power Cosmic, Marvel Snap's next in-game season, Second Dinner detailed the Collector's Token and Token Shop system that will make targeting cards easier.
Currently, Marvel Snap cards are split into Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 sets, and players earn cards within each series randomly before progressing to the next. The random nature of it means that players might have to wait for a long time before they actually get the helpful cards they want. Once The Power Cosmic season begins, players will be able to purchase specific cards with a new type of currency called Collector's Tokens. This is not a paid currency, players can only earn it through gameplay rewards after Collection Level 500.
Players can then spend Collector's Tokens in the Token Shop, which features one new card every eight hours. Players can pin cards they really want, earn Collector's Tokens to spend, and then purchase the specific card for themselves via the Token Shop. It'll still probably be faster to get cards through raising your collection level, but giving a non-randomized way to earn cards is much appreciated as a longtime Marvel Snap player.
Token Shop and The Power Cosmic Season | Developer Update | December 2022
Of course, the addition of this system increases the need for more high-level cards, so Second Dinner will also add brand new Series 4 and Series 5 cards when The Power Cosmic season rolls around. The following heroes are part of this new Series.

She-Hulk
Titania
Luke Cage
Absorbing Man
Maria Hill
Agent Coulson
Helicarrier
M'Baku
Attuma
Orka
Galactus
Valkyrie
Super Skrull
Shuri
Baster
Thanos and the six Infinity Stones

Battlefield 2042’s new season adds a map set in the developer’s homeland
Soldiers fighting on Battlefield 2042 Season 3 map Spearhead.

EA unveiled everything players can expect from Battlefield 2042 Season 3: Escalation ahead of its November 22 start date. The most notable addition is a brand new map called Spearhead, which is set in Sweden, the homeland of the Battlefield series' main developer, DICE.
Surprisingly, Spearhead is the first Battlefield map set in DICE's home country. The map is centered around two Nordvik manufacturing facilities in the Swedish wilderness, surrounded by very rocky and uneven landscapes. It looks like a map full of interesting terrain that will benefit some vehicles, like the brand-new EMKV90-TOR tank, more than others. Later in Season 3: Escalation, the Manifest map will be reworked to be less cluttered and more tightly designed, while a Breakaway rework will move the Oil Rig to a location much closer to where most action on the map takes place.

Of course, Season 3: Escalation is more than just a new map, battle pass, and some map reworks. A new assault Special named Rasheed Zain is an Egyptian soldier whose legs were amputated after a military accident and replaced with prosthetics. He wields an Airburst launcher and recharges his health very fast after getting a kill, making him great on the front lines of a fight.
The Rorsch MK-4 railgun, the NVK-S22 shotgun, NVK-P125 long-range pistol, the throwing knife, and vault weapons XM8 and A-91 spice things up on the weapons front. EA and DICE also teased that they'll finally start to rework Battlefield 2042's Specialist and Class systems toward the end of the season.
Battlefield 2042 Season 3: Escalation begins on November 22 across all platforms. The game will also be added to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate via EA Play on that date. Later, the PS5 version of Battlefield 2042 will be free to try between December 16 and December 23.
