Who can forget the classic story of The Three Musketeers? The trio of aging, but legendary swordsmen; the corrupt Cardinal Richelieu trying to usurp the 17th Century French throne; the young D’Artagnan accidentally facing off in a fight against the venerable swordsmen before forming an unbreakable bond; and of course the floating airships and gattling guns.
The upcoming remake (Or is it a reboot since there have been multiple movies already?) of Three Musketeers won’t descend on theaters until this October, but a new trailer has been released to give you an idea of what to expect. The story will be a retelling of Dumas’ tale, but with a modern twist, and of course, The Three Musketeers will be 3D-ier.
The tale traditionally has focused on D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman), the poor, but talented swordsman who through a series of mishaps accidentally challenges three of the greatest living swordsmen of the age: Athos (Matthew Macfadyen), Porthos (Ray Stevenson) and Aramis (Luke Evans). Once the inevitable superhero meeting/fight has been resolved, the four find themselves embroiled in a plot involving Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz), the notorious Rochefort (Mads Mikkelsen), and Milady de Winter (Milla Jovovich). The Musketeers must unite and protect the throne, or the King (Freddie Fox) and Queen (Juno Temple) may be doomed. The new telling seems to work off of the original but with a few twists, including a Matrix like ability to dodge incoming projectiles and flame throwers, but the basic idea remains the same.
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil, Death Race), the film also stars Orlando Bloom. Look for it in 3D on October 14.
