The next Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack has been leaked

Thanks to the watchful eyes of the website VG247, it appears that we have our first look at when to expect the next Black Ops map pack, as well of a hint of what it may contain. The news comes from an Australian retailer (hence the May 3 release date listed as 3/5), which quickly pulled the flyer–likely after receiving an angry phone call from Activision who has yet to officially confirm the news. It is important to note, that while the info pictured appears genuine and is in holding with the previous map pack, this is all still unconfirmed.

There isn’t much more to be said about the news that isn’t on the flyer. If true, the next DLC will feature four new competitive maps as well as one new zombie map—similar to what the previous Black Ops DLC, “First Strike”, contained.

Regardless of whether or not it is released on May 3, when the DLC does debut it will hit Xbox Live first, as per the exclusivity contract between Activision and Microsoft. If the release follows the past releases, it will then head to PC and PS3 about a month afterwards.

The leak couldn’t have happened at a better time for Activision, as the publisher would no doubt love to take the attention off of themselves and the impending lawsuit between itself and the former heads of Infinity Ward who recently accused Activision of fraud. Regardless of the outcome of the trial—which also begins in May—if history is any indication, the upcoming DLC will make a ton of money regardless how gamers feel about the situation.

The details on this upcoming expansion may change, but assuming they are set, look for the “Escalation” map pack for Xbox 360 on May 3, with the PC and PS3 version due out roughly a month afterwards.

This Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Black Friday deal is still active
Five main characters from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

The Call of Duty franchise has been one of the biggest players in gaming for a while now, and if you grew up in the early 2000s, you're familiar with the iconic Modern Warfare campaigns. Well, the game's latest iteration is already a smash hit and a lot of fun, and if you want to pick it up for Xbox or PlayStation, Walmart has it discounted down to $55 from $70, which is great for a newly released game. That said, you better hurry and pick it up if you like it because we've already seen many Black Friday deals expire. It's also better not to wait for any Cyber Monday deals since we aren't sure if we'll even see a deal on Modern Warfare II, let alone one as good as this.

Why you should buy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
There are generally two ways to enjoy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II: online multiplayer or the campaign. First, let's start with multiplayer, a significant improvement on the last entry into the series, with several new modes and excellent gunplay. There's also a lot of customization in guns, allowing a lot of fine-tuning that's new to the franchise, and since we want to start you off with an advantage, we've ranked every gun on Modern Warfare II. That's not the only new thing there, with some great new and upgraded Killstreaks and Perks for you to play around with. That said, the maps sometimes feel cluttered due to having tons of entry points, and a large number of alleyways and small places to navigate create many sightlines that are hard to keep up with.

Call of Duty: Warzone Rebirth Island tips for Season 5 Reloaded
call of duty warzone how to level up weapons fast rebirth

Call of Duty: Warzone's Rebirth Island was implemented in December 2020 as part of the Black Ops Cold War integration. This additional map is a lot smaller than Verdansk or Caldera and plays differently, with more fast-paced action that often results in riskier playstyles. Matches last around 10 to 20 minutes, and things get hectic as soon as you touch the ground.

One of its main differences, aside from the size of the map, is that you're able to respawn as long as at least one of your team members is alive. There's a lot of nuance to how this works, and it forces you to be strategic when approaching certain situations. Now, as of the Season 5 Reloaded update, the small-scale map has undergone a substantial number of changes.

How to level up your weapons fast in Call of Duty: Warzone
Character with gas mask holding weapon in Warzone.

Weapon customization is at the heart of the Call of Duty: Warzone experience, and following the integrations of Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard, you have even more firearms at your disposal — over 150 as of September 2022. Each weapon has a laundry list of attachments that can be unlocked by earning Weapon XP, but if you're a new player or someone who just wants to make progress quickly, it can be tough to level up your guns — especially if you only own Warzone. Some weapons are hard to use, and that's even more true for firearms with no attachments (or the wrong attachments), making it challenging to actually gain progression with them.
