Duke Nukem Forever is not only complete, it has gone gold

There are certain things you just never expect to hear. You can see them coming from miles off, everyone can tell you that they are happening, and yet overriding years of experience is a tough thing to do. Such is the case when a press release came to us today announcing that Duke Nukem Forever had gone gold. It must be awfully chilling in Hell today…

After 15 years of “development”, the long awaited game is not only finally ready to be released, it has gone gold. But those of a slightly more cynical slant may say that going gold is not a big deal, since the game has had a decade and a half to collect preorders. The preorders leading to gold, however, are all for the upcoming game’s PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 release.

But perhaps more importantly than the fact that the game has gone gold is the news that it has officially been completed. No, really.

“Duke Nukem Forever is the game that was once thought to be unshipppable, and yet here we are, on the precipice of history,” bragged Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Today marks an amazing day in the annals of gaming lore, the day where the legend of Duke Nukem Forever is finally complete and it takes that final step towards becoming a reality.”

To those lucky enough to have missed the last f15 years of Duke Nukem drama, that might not seem all that surprising for a game due out in June. But fans of the often delayed/cancelled title should rest easy knowing that the game has actually been completed, and it will be released on June 10 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Of course a lot could happen between now and June 10…

Ubisoft confirms Assassin’s Creed remakes are in the works

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

Surfaced patent shows what an Xbox streaming console would’ve looked like

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”
