God of War Ragnarok rating signals imminent release date

We could be hearing more about God of War Ragnarok‘s release date soon. The game was rated by South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee.

According to the rating, the applicant is Sony Interactive Entertainment Korea and the game has been rated as 18+, suggesting that it will receive an M rating here in the West. When a game gets rated, it tends to signal that a release date is right around the corner.

Last month, Sony Santa Monica director Cory Barlog released a video in which he says he wants to share footage of the game, but it’s not ready just yet. And the developer also chimed in and reassured audiences that it would be released this year. The latest update we got about God of War Ragnarok was provided last week over at the official PlayStation blog. The post went over the game’s accessibility features.

While a rating has appeared, it doesn’t mean that a delay is off the table. Horizon Forbidden West originally was on track to release during the holiday season of 2021 but ultimately launched in February 2022. God of War Ragnarok was delayed to 2022 and it could possibly be delayed further to 2023.

That would be consistent with a current wave of high-profile delays in the video game industry. The growing list includes Redfall and Starfield, both of which were recently delayed to early 2023. The schedule shifts have left Nintendo to dominate the rest of 2022 with its lineup of games, but if God of War Ragnarok does indeed launch later this year, PlayStation will have its time in the spotlight, too.

God of War Ragnarok is set to release on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this year.

In a social media post on April 26, developer ConcernedApe gave a minor update on the console versions of the newest update, saying, "Console and mobile ports are still in progress, thank you again for your continued patience!" This doesn't answer much, but it should at least give console players the peace of mind that the update is still headed their way and will be available as soon as possible.

Rumored release window

A constant release window that all leaks have pointed to is sometime in Fall of 2024. That's right around the corner, probably in the September through November range, meaning we should be getting an official announcement on the console if that is indeed the plan. It appears that PS5 Pro dev kits are now in the hands of more developers, who have been asked that PS5 Pro-enhanced games be submitted for certification in August. These developments point toward a 2024 release.

This includes an online multiplayer component that allows you and up to three friends to hang out on each other's farms. And with the recent trend of games allowing players on different platforms to join together, you may wonder if Stardew Valley offers cross-platform functionality. Here's everything we know about cross-platform support in Stardew Valley.
Is Stardew Valley cross-platform?
Stardew Valley does not offer cross-platform support, meaning you can't play online multiplayer between any of the systems the game is on. So if you want to team up with some friends, make sure you all are playing on the same platform, such as the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, or PC. Also be aware that whoever starts a multiplayer game is saving that shared world locally, meaning no one else can reenter that world without the host present.

The sad fact of the matter is there doesn't seem to be any indication that crossplay will come to Stardew Valley. The game's official Reddit still lists it as not being supported, and there was only one mention of it by the developer on Twitter back in 2018, when he responded to a question asking if crossplay would come to the game. He replied, "Unfortunately, there will not be crossplay. Apparently, the technical barriers are very high. It's still something I really want to add and I promise to look into it more closely, but first priority is getting the update out there." This was many years ago, and there has been no further information about cross-platform play since, so it seems very unlikely that we will see support for this functionality come to Stardew Valley.
