DICE is getting set to release Battlefield 3 into the world in a couple of weeks, meaning that there will soon be more time to focus on other things. Like Mirror’s Edge, many fans hope. The studio is aware of that too, based on what DICE producer Patrick Liu had to say in a recent interview with Spong.
“Yeah, definitely. I think it’s something that people are ready to get into again,” he said. “We see that there’s a huge fan following, it’s almost like a cult! And we know what strengths we had, and what weaknesses we had in that game. If we were to release a new game, we’d know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience. So I definitely think there’s a market there.”
Those who skipped Mirror’s Edge are missing out on a unique experience. The game looks like a first-person shooter initially, but it’s really more of a platforming-oriented puzzle game built around a nimble, parkour-loving protagonist.
Chasm-spanning leaps, wall-running, vaults, dives, slides and more can be performed using the game’s simple set of intuitive, largely contextual controls. The original game often felt a little linear in the path it presented you, but the core elements are strong and definitely deserve another look.
