Dragon’s Crown still in development says Vanillaware illustrator

Wednesday night was rough for two distinct groups of people. The first group was fans of Capcom’s all but forgotten arcade brawlers Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara. The second was people who want to hit dragons in the face with an axe while playing as a lushly animated, impossibly breasted Nordic warrior. There is admittedly a significant amount of crossover between these groups, but both can now rest easy. While it looked like Playstation 3 and Vita crossover beat ‘em up Dragon’s Crown was cancelled, a member of the development team has announced that the game is in fact still in development.

The rumblings started when members of the NeoGAF message board reported that Amazon.com was canceling pre-orders for the title. While hardly confirmation that a game has been cancelled, retailer listings are a reliable indicator of when a game will be released, if at all. Given the troubles publisher Ignition Entertainment has had in the past year, a cancellation did not seem impossible.

Dragon’s Crown illustrator Shigatake of Vanillaware hit Twitter on Thursday morning to reassure fans that the game is still coming. “Regarding Dragon’s Crown, although there are lots of rumors and conjecture, it’s still in development. Please wait patiently for an official update,” said Shigatake.

Dragon’s Crown was one of the first Vita titles announced, a two-dimensional beat ‘em up in the classic mold of Final Fight directed by George Kamitani, one of the men behind aforementioned Dungeons & Dragons titles. The game will also support simultaneous online play for both Vita and PS3 owners.

Ubisoft confirms Assassin’s Creed remakes are in the works
Basim perched on a ledge overlooking Baghdad

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

Surfaced patent shows what an Xbox streaming console would’ve looked like
An Xbox Series X sits next to both Series S models.

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”
