FromSoftware has had a long history with many franchises, such as the early Kingsfield games that transitioned into the Dark Souls series, and it now returns to its mecha franchise with Armored Core 6. Despite how different and disconnected these franchises may be, every FromSoftware game of this type has one signature weapon included. The Moonlight Greatsword, or in this case, the IA-CO1W2: Moonlight, is typically one of the best weapons in the games it appears in, and is at the very least worth finding in Armored Core 6. Here's where you can pick up this legendary blade.

Difficulty

Moderate

Duration

30 minutes

What You Need

  • Reach chapter 4's Reach the Coral Convergence mission

How to get the Moonlight Sword

The Moonlight Sword is hidden a good way into Armored Core 6, so you will need to play through and beat a couple of bosses, then reach Chapter 4 before you can get it.

Step 1: Reach Chapter 4 and begin the "Reach the Coral Convergence" mission.

Step 2: Go through the mission until you encounter the large bridge leading to a crumbling city.

Step 3: Go to the end of the bridge, where you will need to take out three big-wheel mechs.

Step 4: At the edge of the bridge, look down and to the left to spot some more enemies guarding a chest on a piece of concrete.

Step 5: Drop down and take them out to clear the chest.

Step 6: Crack it open and claim the legendary blade.

If you missed the Moonlight Sword when first doing this mission, you can always get it by replaying the mission, so it is impossible to miss permanently.

Armored Core VI gameplay showcases intense mech fights, deep customization
A combat encounter in Armored Core 6

A new gameplay video for FromSoftware's Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is out now, and it highlights the intense combat and detailed mech customization that Digital Trends first got a look at during Summer Game Fest Play Days earlier in the month.
ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON — Gameplay Footage
The gameplay video begins with a mech leaping off a ledge and boosting through the air to get across a large mechanical facility. It then showcases some combat against minor enemies as the player makes their way deeper into the base so we can see some of the tense combat situations players will find themselves in as they boost around, shoot, and sometimes even melee attacks.
After a look at a Detective Mode-like ability that allows players to scout ahead and some more combat, the trailer cuts away to highlight Armored Core VI's deep customization systems. We see the person playing change arm and back "units," which essentially serve as new weapons. We then see the different kinds of body parts and generators that a mech can be equipped with to make it look and play differently.
And yes, the video confirms that you can customize the color of your mech.

After highlighting customization, it's back to more fighting, which ultimately culminates in a boss fight against a boss that looks a bit like a furnace. It has the remarkable visual design, attack variety, and aggressiveness one would come to expect from a boss in a FromSoftware game, but unfortunately, the player dies and the trailer ends before the boss can be defeated. Still, if you were on the fence about Armored Core VI before, this gameplay footage shows you exactly what to expect.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon launches on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on August 25.

Summer Game Fest: our 10 favorite games we saw and played
A combat encounter in Armored Core 6

Digital Trends attended Summer Game Fest Play Days once again this year, as well as events held by Xbox and Ubisoft, and we were able to play demos of a variety of upcoming games from all corners of the industry. We played or saw a hands-off demo of over 30 games slated to release throughout the next year or so. From new entries in long-running series like Mortal Kombat or Armored Core to more quirky and experimental indies that are pushing the video game medium forward, there was a lot for us to like at this Summer Game Fest Play Days and its surrounding events.
Still, we talked and narrowed things down to our ten favorites so you could have a succinct list of some of the best-looking video games that are on the horizon. In no particular order- with the exception of our Game of the Show - here are our 10 favorite games we played last week as part of Summer Game Fest.
Game of the Show: Cocoon

It’s incredibly difficult to describe what makes Cocoon so special; it’s truly one of those games you need to actually play to understand. The atmospheric, insect-themed adventure game transported me to another world entirely during my demo session, letting me get fully lost in its sci-fi ambiance. Part of that is due to the astonishingly tight game design that had me traversing its visually striking environments and naturally solving puzzles with no explanation necessary. It’s an experience that stuck with me long after I put the controller down, and I wasn’t the only one. It was the one game on my peers’ tongues all weekend, as both press and content creators couldn’t stop praising it despite not being able to describe why. That makes it an easy pick for our game of the show, beating out some impressive Titans on this list. ~ Giovanni Colantonio

Armored Core VI lives up to post-Elden Ring FromSoftware expectations
A boss fight in Armored Core 6.

I don’t envy the position FromSoftware is in with Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. It’s the first title since the release of Elden Ring, a monumental, critically acclaimed title considered one of the studio’s best. It’s also reviving a series that hasn’t been seen in a decade for modern platforms and game audiences. On top of those things, because this isn’t a Souls game, a microscope will be on the title as FromSoftware fans scrutinize if it’s as good as other games, while Souls haters will wonder if this is finally a good FromSoftware jumping on point for them.
