Should you choose Aceles or Microbe in Starfield?

Starfield has perhaps Bethesda’s best main narrative yet, however, most people will still prefer to spend most of their playtime going through the various faction questlines. Among all the different groups out there that your character can join, one of the earliest and most appealing is the UC Vanguard. During one of these faction quests called “A Legacy Forged,” you will have a critical decision to make regarding the use of either Aceles or Microbes to stop the deadly Terromorph threat. The consequences of which one you pick won’t be made clear until after you commit, so here are the repercussions of each decision in Starfield.

Should you choose Aceles or Microbe?

Sarra congratulating you for dealing with the Terromorphs.
Bethesda Softworks

The Terromorphs are a created species designed to completely destroy whatever environment they encounter and must not be allowed to propagate. To contain this threat, Abello from the UC Council presents you with two options to destroy the Terromorphs: Aceles and Microbes.

Aceles are another species that is the only one capable of hunting and killing the Terromorphs. By allowing them to breed and hunt down the Terromorphs, you can end the threat safely, but over a longer period and at a higher cost.

The Microbe mentioned is a bioweapon that will infect the Terromorphs essentially all at once to wipe them out. However, the Microbe will also infect any nearby flora and fauna, essentially killing anything else nearby as collateral damage. It will end the threat in one shot, yes, but at the cost of many innocent lives as well.

Both will result in the Terromorphs being stopped, but the choice comes down to whether you want to deal with it in a more “natural” way by using a natural predator or dropping a chemical bomb of sorts that is indiscriminate in what it will infect. Your choice won’t impact your reward or the narrative beyond this, though some Companions may not agree with one choice or the other.

Where to get the Narwhal spaceship in Starfield
A preview of the Narwhal ship in Starfield.

Among the dozens of ships you can find, buy, steal, and even create yourself in Starfield, there's one that stands out as one of the best you can get without spending hours designing one yourself with the best weapons and parts. The Narwhal may have an ugly name, and an appearance to match, but don't judge this book by its cover. This ship has some amazing stats that make it well worth the sticker price. Having enough Credits to buy it is only half the trouble, though. If you want to become the captain of your very own Narwhal spaceship in Starfield, you'll need to know where to get it.
How to get the Narwhal

The Narwhal is sold at Taiyo Astroneering inside of the Ryujin Industries building on Neon. Neon is a major hub city, but if you haven't been there yet or need a refresher, it is inside the Volli system to the right of Olympus. Once on Neon, find the big red Ryujin Industries building on the promenade and head to the elevator in the back. Select the Yaiyo Astroneering floor, which is one level above the Lobby, and go up to the right into the Show Room. Speak with Veronica and ask to see what she's got for sale.

Where to find The Den in Starfield
A spacecraft in Starfield.

For all you Starfield players who prefer to live a life of crime, then you'll no doubt know that collecting and selling contraband is one of the most lucrative ways to spend your time. However, you aren't able to just take these illegal items and sell them freely, especially if you don't have a ship that can hide your questionable cargo. If you want a safe place you can land and find a willing buyer for whatever haul you've got in your ship's hold, The Den is where you want to go. This is a hotspot for all sorts of illegal activity and nefarious players in the Starfield world but isn't exactly a place that advertises its location. If you want to pay a visit to The Den, here's where to find it.
How to get to The Den

To travel to The Den, open your star map and look for the Wolf system. This will be to the right of the Sol system and near the Narion and Alpha Centauri systems. Once you zoom in on the Wolf system, you won't find a planet named The Den because it isn't a planet at all - it is a space station. The Den is actually orbiting the planet Chthonia, so locate that and then look for an icon of an outpost near it called The Den. Select it and you can fast travel over.

What happened to Earth in Starfield?
Starfield planets

Unlike The Elder Scrolls series, which takes place in a completely fictional setting, Starfield takes place in an alternate future of the world we currently live in. Set a bit over 300 years in the future, humanity has not only traveled the stars, but settled down on multiple planets across the galaxy. Cities like New Atlantis in particular have essentially become the new home world for humans, which raises the obvious question of what became of Earth? You'll get some clues very early on that our beloved home planet is no longer habitable like it was, but what caused this? The answers are there in Starfield, so let's go over exactly what happened to Earth.
Why is Earth uninhabitable in Starfield?

The entire population of Earth was forced to abandon its home planet in the mid-2100s after Grav Drive technology was discovered. Dr. Victor Aiza was the one to make this initial discovery that propelled our species into space to begin colonizing other planets. This came at a cost, however, as by 2150, Earth's government realized that the planet's magnetosphere would collapse in just 50 years as a result of this testing. The planet would become completely uninhabitable, which forced a complete exodus from the planet during those 50 years. By 2203, Earth was reduced to a barren wasteland.
