Infinity Blade: Dungeons delayed until 2013

Epic Games’ Infinity Blade titles have been some of the best action games so far seen on iOS gadgets like the iPhone and iPad, so it only makes sense that fans would be anxiously awaiting word on the next title in the franchise. Unfortunately, word has just come in and it’s not good: Infinity Blade: Dungeons will not appear until 2013.

That seems a bit odd, given the relatively short development time behind iOS games, and the fact that Epic showed this game off in March. Fortunately Epic representative Wes Phillips offered AllThingsD a detailed list of reasons. “Ever since the talented team at Impossible Studios got their hands on Infinity Blade: Dungeons, they’ve been busy adding their great ideas to the game,” Phillips said. “There was also the matter of getting the Impossible Studios team up and running with desks, chairs, staplers and computers. The logistics of a new studio and implementing all these great ideas required a little extra time, so Infinity Blade: Dungeons will hit iOS in 2013.”

We’re not sure how to feel about this news. On the one hand Epic has delayed a sequel that should be one of the top action titles on the iOS platform to a nebulous point in 2013. On the other hand, that could be as little as three months from now, and we’re all for developers spending as much time as possible polishing their titles.

Given the surprisingly gorgeous visuals and addictive gameplay in existing Infinity Blade games, we can’t really fault Epic Games if it adopts a more traditional console game-esque development cycle for its iOS games. Sure, we’ll all have a bit more of a wait, but if it produces blockbuster iOS games then how can you argue with the results?

Grapple Blades can be found on the ground and in chests all across this season's map. Keep in mind, however, that they're relatively rare, meaning it's sometimes possible to go entire matches without seeing one. Of course, that's just a good incentive to track down and defeat your opponents to see if they leave one behind.

When this hybrid mobility and damage item is equipped, you'll notice that it shows a cursor on surfaces you can grapple to. Doing so will send you propelling toward the surface pretty quickly, making it a great choice for escaping a firefight or finding high ground in the midst of one. But before you get carried away, it's worth noting that you only have four charges at a time with a Grapple Blade, though it will recharge one at a time every 12 seconds.

Netflix games may be coming to TVs soon, as revealed by new iOS app

It looks like Netflix might be expanding its gaming offerings to TVs soon, as a Netflix Game Controller is now on the iOS App Store. Netflix has yet to announce or comment on the purpose of the app, but a message shown when the app boots up confirms that it's coming.
Netflix has slowly made its way into the gaming industry over the past couple of years, acquiring studios and adding a dedicated game section to its mobile app that lets players download premium mobile games. The library includes some great games like Poinpy and Before Your Eyes, but has yet to break into the mainstream, likely due to its somewhat obscure availability. This new app, which was preemptively listed on Apple's storefront by Netflix and lines up with leaks from earlier this year, indicates that Netflix Games are coming to the TV.
The description for the app states that "this Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device." After downloading and booting up the app, Digital Trends discovered two more messages asking players to "choose a game on your TV and follow the directions to connect" and that "Netflix Games on TV are in beta. Some devices may not be supported at this time."
All of this points to an impending beta rollout for games on Netflix's TV apps, which has not been announced yet. As such, we don't have any idea about which televisions or games the iOS app or Netflix Games on TV will support just yet. Regardless, this looks like a massive evolution for Netflix's gaming efforts, especially as it gears up to release a cloud gaming service.
Netflix declined to comment on the program when asked by Digital Trends, but it did refer us to previous statements it made about its intentions to break into cloud and TV game streaming.
