Check out our full review of the IK Multimedia iLoud speaker.
Making music using only iOS devices just got a lot louder. IK Multimedia has just introduced two wireless speakers intended to replace those 75 lb. monitors and amps with a portable, potent, wireless solution.
Announced today, the iLoud and iLoud MINI are billed as the first-ever portable speakers designed for musicians. IK Multimedia claims that these speakers can produce sound that’s “on par with professional studio monitors.” Sometimes an appellation is worth a thousand words, and iLoud is certainly a suggestive one. If these two units can walk the walk, IK could have a winner on its hands. Let’s look a bit closer.
The iLoud houses a bi-amped 4-driver array, while its mini-me sports just a pair of full-range speakers. The driver disparity translates to a power gap as well, as the iLoud cranks out 40W RMS, while its counterpart is capable of 12W. Big brother also includes a ¼-inch guitar/bass input, which uses the same circuitry as IK’s popular iRig.
Both models feature Bluetooth support, a Li-Ion rechargeable battery, and a ⅛-inch mini-jack input for connecting DJ equipment, MP3 players, mixers, and more.
These two speakers look pretty legit, and could help elevate wireless audio among a trade that generally holds fast to its wired past. The power ratings, in particular suggest that these are some fairly muscle-bound wireless speakers.
Both models will be available in Q2 2013, the iLoud for $300, and the iLoud MINI for $200.
