Update: This post was originally published on February 19, 2013. In this update, Samsung has announced availability and pricing for the U.S. The camera will be available in late April for $450.
If you’ve been intrigued by the Android-based Samsung Galaxy camera, but can’t justify paying for a 3G/4G cellular data plan, then Samsung’s new Wi-Fi-only version of the point-and-shoot should appeal to you. The EK-GC110 retains all the camera specs of the EK-GC100: 16.3-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor (1/2.3 inches), 4.8-inch touchscreen, 21x optical, and ISO of up to 3,200. As a smart device, it uses the same 1.4-gigahertz quad-core processor to run Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), but minus the cell connectivity; there are, however, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
The camera is due to go on sale in late April for $450. In the meantime, you can check out our full review of the Samsung Galaxy camera running on AT&T’s network, which is identical.
