Fallout: New Vegas studio teases ‘unique next-gen game’ in job listing

Fallout New Vegas

Few developers have revealed any concrete plans for Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, but Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment seems to have something in the works. A newly posted job listing hints at what the studio’s plans are for the PlayStation 4 and/or the next Xbox console, at least early on.

The posting, spied by Gamespot, seeks a level designer to work on a “unique next generation game.” Applicants will be required to, among other things, work on designing content that includes “quests, NPCs, items, puzzles, et al.”

As Gamespot points out, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart teased a hypothetical sequel to Fallout: New Vegas that would be set in Los Angeles in a Rock, Paper, Shotgun interview from February 2013. This could be reading in too deeply, but the use of the word “unique” in the job ad suggests that the next-gen game will not be a sequel. It could also just as easily be a clever red herring meant to keep us off the real scent while still getting us talking about it.

Another job ad seeks a UI/user experience artist with “previous experience on mobile or browser based Flash applications or games.” There’s no indication that the job has any connection to the next-gen project.

Obsidian has got plenty on its plate already. South Park: The Stick of Truth is scheduled to ship in 2013, and the studio’s Project Eternity Kickstarter raised $3,986,929 last year.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty received a demo on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, allowing you to try out Team Ninja's challenging new Soulslike title for a limited time between September 16 and September 25.

Announced by publisher Koei Tecmo during Tokyo Game Show, the trial version of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is an in-development look at what Team Ninja has been working on over the past few years. Of course, the team is known for sharing limited-time demos for its games, as titles like Nioh and Nioh 2 both received multiple beta tests leading up to their respective releases. And as with those previous trials, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty's demo requires an online connection to access, though it's worth noting that it doesn't require a paid membership to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold.

The game will now launch mere days before this year's Ubisoft Forward livestream, which takes place on September 10.
