The Dubai police department is eager to up the horsepower output of its patrol cars. Accordingly, it’s snapping up some of the world’s fastest and finest for its fleet.
Earlier this week, we reported that the Dubai police department had bought a super-rare Aston Martin One-77 as its latest patrol car. Now word comes that the wealthy law enforcement agency has received another car: a Chevrolet Camaro SS.
While at first glance the lowly Chevy might seem out of place amongst the Bentley, Lambo, and Aston already on the beat, in truth the Camaro is no slouch compared to those cars. It produces 426 horsepower and can go 0-60 in 4.7 seconds.
Surprisingly, the Camaro is extremely popular in the Middle East. Evo Middle East magazine named it “Muscle Car of the Year 2012,” according to a General Motors press release.
Of its Dubai-based exotica brethren, the Camaro SS might actually be the best car for the job. The Camaro – by comparison – is easily serviceable and has a large parts support system around the globe. The same cannot be said, we suspect, of the other cars filling out the Dubai police’s stable.
If it were our money, we would have gone with the Camaro ZL1 over the SS or waited, perhaps, for the Corvette Stingray. Regardless, it’s cool to imagine a Camaro on patrol next to the rest of the supercar police cruisers.
