Asus to finally release Transformer Book hybrid PC on May 21

ASUS Transformer Book (alternate)It’s been almost a year since Asus announced the Transformer Book, a tablet-Ultrabook hybrid à la the brand’s Transformer Prime line (except it runs Windows 8 instead of Android). The Transformer Book could’ve been one of the first Windows 8 hybrids to hit the market, but it was met with delays and, according to its Facebook page, will finally be available in the U.S. starting May 21.

The detachable display that turns into a standalone tablet has a 13.3-inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. It comes with 4GB of RAM, and you can choose between Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The tablet component of the device is equipped with a 128GB or 256GB solid-state drive, while the keyboard dock contains an extra 500GB hard drive that you can use to store everything else you don’t need to carry around with you on your tablet.

Asus recently released a relatively cheaper Transformer Book in Japan that comes with a Core i5 processor, but there’s no word on whether that will also be launched in the U.S. We’re still waiting on the official price of the Transformer Book, but it was previously reported at $1,300. Check out our hands-on review of the Asus Transformer Book from CES for more details about the hybrid device!

Asus Vivobook 13 Slate OLED hero shot.

Asus has been releasing a slew of devices with OLED screens recently, such as the excellent Vivobook Pro 16X. The Asus Vivobook 13 Slate OLED continues that trend and focuses on entertainment and productivity. In fact, Asus says there's no need to carry multiple devices.

The Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is a 2-in-1 Windows tablet in the same vein as Microsoft's Surface line. It features a full-sized detachable keyboard and stylus support. Although, unlike the Surface, the computer comes with a keyboard instead of being sold separately. It even sports an adjustable cover stand with a 170-degree hinge.

Asus ZenBook 13 OLED vs. Dell XPS 13
Dell XPS 13 9310 Featured Image showing display and keyboard deck.

Dell's XPS 13 is one of the best laptops you can buy for almost any task. There are several reasons it's our choice for both the best laptop overall and the best 13-inch laptop, not the least of which are its diminutive size, its great looks and build quality, and its plethora of configuration choices.

That's some stiff competition, but it didn't stop Asus from producing its own 13-inch competitor, the ZenBook 13 OLED. Can this well-configured near-budget laptop compete against the best there is?
