Twisted Metal creator David Jaffe, who wrote last summer that the most recent game in the series would likely be his last, returns to the car combat genre as creative advisor on Pixelbionic’s indie PC title Autoduel. Be careful not to confuse this with Richard “Lord British” Garriott’s 1985 game of the same name (pictured above for LOLZ). The southern California-based studio announced Jaffe’s involvement today in a press release.
InXile Entertainment co-founder and Return to Castle Wolfenstein art director Maxx Kaufman started Pixelbionic along with industry vet Mike Arkin. Scot Kramarich, designer on classic vehicle deathmatch games Interstate ’76 and Interstate ’82, is involved as well. The studio plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign for Autoduel soon.
“I was super excited when I heard Pixelbionic’s vision for Autoduel,” Jaffe said in the announcement. “As a huge fan of the genre, I’m really looking forward to contributing to the game’s vision and design goals.”
Autoduel is described as a team-based vehicle combat game with extensive customization and progression options. It is set in a futuristic world after some apocalyptic event. Information on the game itself is somewhat lacking at the moment, but Pixelbionic promises to reveal more details and additional development team members soon. You can certainly expect more details to accompany the launch of the Kickstarter campaign. Stay tuned for more on that when we hear it.
