Apple has confirmed it’s to hold a media event on September 10, where we expect to see the next generation of iPhone devices, along with news on iOS 7, and hopefully, a few surprises, too. The September 10 date had been previously rumored as the big day, and comes almost exactly a year after the 2012 event, where the iPhone 5 was revealed for the first time.
The event will take place at 10am PST (1pm EST) and it’s being held at the Town Hall on Apple’s Cupertino, CA campus. At the moment, there’s no word on whether Apple will live stream the event, as it has done for the last few times, but we can hope to see a new icon on our Apple TV menu sometime in the near future.
Apple is expected to take the covers off the iPhone 5S, a revised model of the existing iPhone 5, along with the iPhone 5C, a low-cost alternative with a plastic body shell. Rumors surrounding the specification of the iPhone 5S include a faster processor, a fingerprint sensor for improved security, and the arrival of alternative color schemes, including a much-discussed gold model. The invitation’s tagline, “This should brighten everyone’s day,” certainly drops a strong hint we’ll be seeing colored iPhone models.
We’ll also be shown the final version of iOS 7, the visually overhauled version of Apple’s mobile operating system, which was officially unveiled at WWDC earlier this year. In addition to seeing all the new features, we’ll also finally learn its release date.
What else? Well, we could hear more on OS X Mavericks, the updated version of iTunes, and a new iCloud to match iOS 7’s new design. If rumors are accurate, we won’t be hearing about the next generation iPad or iPad Mini at this event, and little has been heard about any revised iPod models.
There’s just over a week to go, and we’ll be bringing you all the Apple news on the day.
Updated on 09/04/2013 by Andy: Apple has sent invitations out to members of the press in China, where it’ll hold an event on September 11. This is the first time Apple has scheduled an event in China, and as the invitation artwork and tagline are the same as its Cupertino event, we’d imagine the content is going to be fairly similar too. The Chinese focus could indicate one or both the rumored new iPhone models will be arriving on the China Mobile network.
