Nikon yesterday announced a new high performance digital SLR camera which features a 10.2 megapixel CCD sensor. The D200 is priced at $1,699.95 and expected to be available in late December.
The D200, said Nikon, offers a host of features targeted towards the discriminating photographer. These include the aforementioned 10.2 megapixel CCD image sensor capable of capturing images at 3,872 x 2,592 pixels, incorporating of Nikon’s D2x advanced image processing engine, a large viewfinder with 0.94x magnification and a durable, lightweight magnesium alloy body.
Other features of the D200 include 5fps continuous shooting in bursts of up to 22 NEF or 37 JPEG shots, a power up time of 0.15 seconds, a shutter release of 50 milliseconds, 11-area AF with 7-wide area AF, a 2.5†LCD monitor with 170 degree wide angle viewing, a rechargeable battery capable of lasting up to 1,800 shots and an optional wireless transmitter which uses 802.11 wireless technology to transfer photos to a computer.
